It pulls Wednesday back into the fight again. If we beat Barnsley we won't need to worry about them.

They'll be 3 ahead with a game in hand with a easy run in. Just can't see it. Our battle is for 2nd.

Barnsley 1 up on 20:14 - Mar 21 by ITFCBlues | In what way is Barnsley winning a good result for us? |
With you on that one. I'd rather we were one of two teams fighting for one place, when we are in much better form than that other team, than being one of four teams fighting for two places. Even more so that Sheffield Wednesday play twice after this before we play again and are pretty much guaranteed 6 points. That would put them either 9 or 12 points ahead of us and we'd have a game in hand on them. We may as well let them go and worry about overhauling Plymouth. Barnsley being a game behind us with a game in hand in much better form than Plymouth is not needed.

It isn't great (a draw would be better), but they are still a fair way behind and we have a chance to take points from them ourselves.

Because we need to look ahead. Not behind. It’s still in our hands with Barnsley.

If Barnsley are that good, we'll be second to them. Anything which keeps the melee going is good - so long as we can keep winning ourselves.

Why give up on 1st. We're in the best form we've been in for decades, any results that go against those above us can only be good if we can keep our form. Stop worrying about what's below us and start watching what's going on above us! [Post edited 21 Mar 2023 20:23]

Because staying level and grounded rather than the wildly bipolar opinion the majority of our fans seem to have adopted... we've just beaten 4 really poor teams and 2 good ones, we're not suddenly going to win every game between now and the end of the season. If we get a point at Barnsley we will be doing well considering they've just comfortably beaten Plymouth and are 2 up against the league leaders who havent been beaten since October. We could accumulate 90+ points (which i think we will) and still come 4th. We need a draw here ideally, next best is a Wednesday win.

Neither are Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth or Barnsley going to win all of their games for the rest of the season. Who's to say this game doesn't knock Wednesdays confidence and they have a wobble? As we know well a knock of confidence and a little luck against you and the 1-0 wins they've been grinding out can easily turn into 0-0's 1-1's or even 0-1's.

If results stay as they are, Wednesday average 2.16 ppg. If they drop off to 1.8 in the next 10 games they end up on 96 points. We will have to win 7 from 9 to equal that. Lose our next 2 and we'll have people on here crying that we'll get knocked out in the playoffs. The chances of Barnsley overtaking us are much higher than us overtaking Wednesday who are like top of the form table in every league in the last calendar year. Its not just a good run of form, they have been ridiculously consistent since the start of 2022.

I'm sure the teams chasing Plymouth last season were saying similar things but football doesn't work that way. Teams go off the boil in the click of a finger sometimes. Have some hope! I'm not saying we all need to lose our heads with excitement. We are pretty much guaranteed a playoff spot now barring a massive drop off of form so what difference does it make it we finish 3rd or 6th? We need to hope that those above us drop points to go up automatically even if that means teams around us winning.
