Saffron Walden is a lovely little market town, full of interesting buildings and gardens and with at least three mazes. It's in Essex, but very close to Hertfordshire, and only about 8 miles from the nearest point in Suffolk and actually has a number of Suffolk Pink houses.

Sounds lovely - might have a drive there one day.

We pop there quite a bit from Hertfordshire, nearest Adnams shop as well!

Saffron Walden is a nice place for sure. Looked at buying there when I came back from oversea - amongst other places.

What put me off - was the countryside around it and lack of access to the coast. If only you could drop it in the Dedham vale or on Shotley peninsula then you'd have the best of all worlds.

Why I'd probably place somewhere like Woodbridge ahead of it - nice town and accessible countryside on yer doorstep. Shame it's so expensive.

Agree that a bit water (sea or river) is important.

Not a chance, Haverhill is way to posh and culturally rich to be part of Essex

Read a lot of put downs on Haverhill on here over the years - is it really that bad!?

Pffft try Grays, Thurrock, or Basildon. They make Burnley look appealing.

The north west must be desperate if Liverpool's the best. Crouch End's decent but expensive for what it is. We looked into it but still think we got better for less money in Crystal Palace.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

It's not that close to Leiston.

And, let's face it, norfolk is welcoming more and more of the sea with each day that passes.

Yeah, I wanted to live in Chelsea but found a nicer place for less in Blackburn.

The overall winner, Wadhurst in East Sussex, is nothing to write home about.

I know you're only joking, but Crystal Palace was voted best in London last year, or the year before, and is comparable to Crouch End. Both have a sort of villagey vibe, sort of separate from London but still a part of it.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I think that is a bit unfair. The centre of Liverpool and especially the waterfront is amazing.

And according to Wikipedia, Liverpool has the second highest number of art galleries, national museums, listed buildings, and listed parks in the UK; only the capital, London, has more.

And let's not forget Crosby Beach and Anthony Gormley's Iron Men, which I visited last week when at the in-laws in Crosby.

EDIT: if you visit Crosby Beach, look out for the quicksand.
