No God, three guns and the dead hand of Trump. Where on earth in Western Society could someone have access to military the guns ? "There have been at least 89 instances of gun violence at kindergarten through 12th grade schools or during school activities in the US this year." 89 ! Well following the gun loonies logic, I am off to buy a tiger, to protect me should any tiger attempt to break into my house....others should do likewise

Completely real, sadly. As someone once said, If 20 kids getting machine gunned to death at Sandy Hook didn’t change anything, nothing will.

It’s not all bad. Some great people, stunning landscapes. A genuine melting pot of cultures. But, the juvenile obsession with guns is really fking tiring.

I'm assuming an AR -15 is a gun? Perhaps if the government gave everybody one then that would stop the problem?

An AR-15 is an assault rifle. In other words semi automatic so you can fire the whole magazine in one go or in single shots. Unlike rifles of old, these are relatively light from what I’ve read. I love America and the people I’ve met there. It’s a great country. It is of course countries within a country and I have not seen the poorer parts bar on the tv.. I have rarely talked to an American about guns and weapons. You don’t ‘see’ them and I guess it’s just a normal thing to keep one on the glovebox etc? They should take guns out of American society. Make them illegal; harder to come by. It’s not a solution but easy access to a weapon that can kill and maim so easily and quickly has to equate to more unnecessary deaths. It’s obvious to me, but equally obvious is that it’s never going to happen.

"The Democrats are coming for your guns" is basically a standard MAGA attack line. It's not true of course, but there is a semblance of something underneath it. There is a very sensible policy that is again going through the house to ban assault rifles (of which the AR-15 is one). It of course will struggle to get passed. No member of the public needs an assault rifle. There is no use-case where a standard, run of the mill household needs one. It's not designed to protect, it's designed to kill as many people as quickly as possible. Which is why these shooters use them. [Post edited 28 Mar 2023 10:56]

I haven’t tried to verify this - but I heard today that more USA schoolchildren die on school shootings than what police officers die on duty. That’s not me belittling the police but, if true, it’s a shocking fact.

There has been 131 incidents where four or more people have been killed by guns in the US, up to today, That ignores incidents of 3 or less, or where the number wounded would take that figure above four. How many of those incidences below three killed, included one where there were multiple bullets discharged with the intention of it being a higher number, Yet, outside the local media we rarely hear anything. Is it because it is accepted. Part of the downsides of a mass ownership of guns ? Is it only when children are killed ? Are adults not just as innocent ? There were nearly 700 incidents that led to four or more killings in the US in 2021. In reply to US thickos, there are numerous incidents of fighting and 'street dancing' at UK football matches. Other than a bit of hurt pride they mostly amount to little. Now imagine if football fans were allowed to buy and carry guns.

The US has a mental health and opioid problem not a gun problem. Plenty of other countries have citizens with guns and hardly any comparable shootings.

It has 390 million guns (2018 estimate). 'Tiny' as you say... Gun deaths account for 79% of all homicides in the USA. For comparison, Canada is 37% and UK is 4%. That's hell of a lot of opioids or mental health issues, but as usual Chico is desperate for the edgy take. Which actually isn't edgy at all. It's the actual MAGA take on it all.

Those numbers and statistics are absolutely crazy. 390 million guns... Am sure Chico will be back in a minute to explain how its really just an opioid problem in greater detail

Never going to happen..... In fact, only in the past few days Florida law makers have voted to allow anyone (apart from felons and kids) to carry a concealed handgun. At the moment you would need a permit to carry.
