In terms of impact in the half-season after signing... 14:49 - Apr 17 with 1587 viewsBondiBlue

...is the broadhead signing better than the marcus stweart signing? Alright marcus got 3 crucial goals in the playoffs but he was pretty average in the league games. Broadhead is on another planet to the other attackers in this division, apart from chappers obviously.

He's clearly a big improvement for us. Can't dismiss or extract the change that Clarke, Luongo and Hirst have also brought. Would Broadhead on his own have made such a difference - probably not as much as he has with the other three.

As good as Broadhead is, Massimo has been a better signing than Broadhead in my opinion. Our midfield is an absolute rock with him in it and that has set the tone for us to starve teams of air, especially at home.

Luongo has been a 8 or 9 / 10 in almost every game he has played for us, the guy is an absolute animal and hope we can keep him and SM together in CM next season with Ball as a back up.

Totally agree, just comparing like-for-like(ish) big money attacking signings.

Having that Morsy/ Luongo midfield gives a lot more freedom for the likes of Broadhead to operate in.

All four signings have been fantastic, I can't put one above or below any others, Morsy and Luongo are a great partnership, Broadhead and Chaplin brilliant, Clarke and Burns fantastic, Hirst is a great number 9 with superb movement off the ball. Each of them adds hugely to the team in general as well as their own individual role.

It's an interesting debating point. Hirst has been a significant step-up in terms of a centre-forward as well, so an argument could be made for him, as well as Luongo, while Clarke has similarly done well.

Worth remembering that Stewart's signing didn't always look so good After scoring in his first two matches, he didn't score again and was in and out of the side until netting in the play-off semi-final at Bolton.

I think they have all improved the squad emphatically, in their own way.

I'd still say Luongo, on a free, is actually the best of the bunch and has really enabled us to go on the run we have.

When I looked at Stewart’s stats from that season it shocked me just how few goals he actually scored that half a season, yet was an instant hero.

Was an instant hero after the play-offs but there were a lot of rumblings about the signing before then, particularly after he limped off in the derby.

I was a bit surprised to hear the Not The Top Twenty podcast say that they think Sam Nombe is the best striker in this league, and would have the goals to prove it if he was at one of the top teams in this league.

Oh was there, I was only 14/15 so don’t really remember much of anything if it wasn’t the 90mins of the game

No coincidence that Morsy hasn't been carded since Luongo's come in and made the place he's own.

I’m sure this is posted in good spirit. It’s all interesting but what’s the point of singling out players when over the season it’s been a real team effort.

I get that Broadhead is in good form. Where earlier in the season we had a different midfield balance helping deliver results and Harness was in better form too, we then had a whole load of injuries that were a detractor on our form, and now we are thankfully through that with our new signings reaping the rewards of the first half season work.

I like Broadhead a lot and he has obvious quality he is making an early impact, he is a performer but we’ve won nothing at this stage as a team. It’s all to close to decide on impact, we can do that in three weeks when we will know how the season ended!

If anything, it will be the team that achieves success and how well players stepped up to cover or in to take the team forwards.

We all know what happens if we don’t quite make it, people don’t accept that two-three other teams were better, they start hunting down the weak link rather than celebrating the progress the club is making.

NO.
Look at how the great Marcus played bringing others into the game. He would have been able to improve the 81 team. Best player in the last 20 odd years, we were very lucky to have witnessed him in blue and white.

MS was good, but improve the 1981 team? What have you been drinking?

But for his first half-season with us he was pretty average. The comparison was about how quickly broadhead/stewart improved the team's attack, as both were signed to do.

Couldn't agree more. Weve conceded a total of 1 goal (I think) since Luongos inclusion to the team.. Dont get me wrong, I really rate Broadhead, too. But so often, the nitty gritty stuff you get from Luongo and Morsy, that wins games. Is overlooked, or outshone, by the moments of spectacular, at the other end.
January, was a good window, all round. Not one of those signings has let us down. And all have contributed massively.. I particularly liked Clarke's "arrival". By way of a crunching 50:50 on the halfway line. So good to see that kind of grit in our side.
