Leicester forum update… time is ticking on Championship readiness 09:44 - Jun 13 with 3596 viewsunstableblue

Went over to FoxesTalk to check any news on Hirst.

First off SkyBet have them as favourites for promotion followed by Leeds, Saints and Boro. With us finishing 10th - I figure top 10 for us, maybe as high as 8th. BUT that will require 2 or 3 strong signings. Any higher is a huge ask.

I really can’t see Leicester winning the league or getting automatic. As one post highlights (from 2 weeks ago!) ‘10 wks to define the club’ - and by that it’s:
“Ten weeks to change the DoF, recruit a manager and his chosen backroom team, and find & fund a squad of players.”

It’s now 8 weeks to go and Scott Parker still seems to be in the mix?! They’re rejoicing Gerrard seems to be going to Saudi and won’t be taking the helm.

There is no news or comments on Hirst - apart from a bizarre post some month back of Chaplin heading to Leicester.

I’m still confident he will sign for Town, he clicked here, he’s been such a key target and McKenna is a huge fan of his to suit his system.

But the question remains can Town wait for this Leicester circus to conclude?? Before bringing in the talisman striker we need for the Championship?? This is one fans view of next season team, perhaps Hirst:

I’d imagine we’ll line up something like this on the first day:

“Iversen

ricardo
Souttar
faes
justin

KDH
Choudhury (probably)
New CM

new LW
one of our current strikers
new RW“

That’s from the below very long thread, where I didn’t see Hirst referenced (can someone spot it??) so he’s really not on the fans radar at all:

"Sell/let contract expire (If possible): Hirst"

But to be honest for a player who we see as such good quality and key to our attacking success, he's really not on the Leicester fans radar!

Been saying along - why would he?

To them - he's what Corrie Ndaba is to us.

We had all this business last year about needing a "talisman" striker and "20 goal" striker, without realising we didn't, because KM was a better judge of what was required and what we already had than we were!.

Twenty-goal-a-season or not (and I think you're right that the 20-goal aspect wasn't particularly the issue), I think it was clear from what Hirst brought to the team in the second half of the season that we were significantly improved as an attacking force from the first half.

They have no interest in him at all and why would they - 0 goals in the Championship from 2 loans - not many other clubs likely to come calling from the Championship.

They aren't even aware how prolific Chaplin is - some bizarre post saying Hirst had talked him into going to Leicester - they weren't even interested in that.

Didn't really think much of Liester either way, but I do hope the Arrogant bas***s languish in the Championship for thinking they could snap their fingers for KM

Hirst and Broadhead got us promoted

Even before Hirst started scoring (crucial) goals he was changing how we could play

So we did need the talisman, its just the need became critical once every team started deploying the low block

Another one missed out on, nice work Evans.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Tbf Scott Parker has a pretty decent championship record doesn't he ?

"With us finishing 10th - I figure top 10 for us, maybe as high as 8th. BUT that will require 2 or 3 strong signings. Any higher is a huge ask"

Pretty much my thoughts, i currently pitch us at about 14th 18th with no signings, if we can improve in 3/4 positions I think top 10 is highly likely.

Both played an important role, for sure. But , imo, Luongo was the crucial piece to the jigsaw.. Once we stopped getting overrun in MF, we were more in control of games, and could chose our moments better. The movement and tireless running of Hirst, was , of course important in pulling oppo defenders around, to help create those moments.
I hope Luongo takes up the contract offer. Such a solid player, even if he doesn't play 90 minutes week in week out.

I think Luongo looked like a Rolls Royve player.. and just gave us some extra quality and dominance in midfield

Great he's signed as he was really effective for the Owls in the Championship pior to injury

Yeah, pleased he signed now.. Think he does a lot of unspectacular work, that can go unnoticed, same as Morsy.. Most notably, for me, he gave Burgess a lot more protection from being "ran at", which is probably one of Burgess' weaknesses. But with both Mass and Morsy in there, two experienced and bullish DMs. We hardly ever got broken through the middle. I'm a big fan of these type of players..They don't get the glory headlines of goal scorers and goal creators. But they are hugely important to how the team functions, imo..
As we know, though, all 4 Jan signings played a massive part in our end of season form. We'll do well to get a 100% hit rate in this window.

Well KM seems to have tried pretty hard to get Hirst last summer so he obviously thought we'd benefit from having him - as indeed we did when he eventually got him in January

I think the desire to sign him now is simply because we saw what he brought t the team and enabled others to flourish. Chaplin's most prolific scoring came after Hirst signed.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?
