I was bored so I was looking at old badges. To me, I only remember the badge with the Suffolk Punch horse. Which I think the club adopted in the late 1970s? [Post edited 21 May 2023 17:23]

I still have a tea mug with that old badge sitting back in England..I came into possesion of it in the early '90´s ...I don't know if it was from the 70's or if Merch for old time stuff ..shirts etc had become a thing by then.

Sunday Evening Quiz on 17:34 - May 21 with 1919 views | DJR | It's pretty similar to the shield on the Ipswich Borough Council coat of arms. I still have a badge which is virtually identical to the one the club used, and which in the late 60s and early 70s my mother transferred from blue cotton football shirt to blue cotton football shirt as I grew bigger. In those days, there was no such thing as an official team shirt, or even I think an official badge. https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=86hSvRRj&id=374823 [Post edited 21 May 2023 17:38]

The version I have must date from 1968 or 69 and is much closer to the design of the Ipswich Borough Council arms. It has on it the words Ipswich FC which might suggest it is not a club product but I am not sure the club sold them. The design is the same as that on the photo of Mick McNeil from 1968/69, which is different to that in 1971/72. https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=v%2FwWLXE%2F&id=8C Looking at earlier shirts, including the 1962 season, it looks like this had been the club crest for many years. Ipswich Wanderers currently use it. https://twitter.com/_iwfc/ [Post edited 21 May 2023 17:59]

The crest of three lions naiaent (horizontal) with three boats is the crest of the old Cinque ports. I leaned that when at Cambridge https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinque_Ports It is remarkable what you can learn when you have a couple of hours to spare before heading to the Abbey Stadium

Gold lion on a field of red was the 1888 badge (the original Ipswich Town FC badge) , this is the 1965 badge.

The away kit is pretty smart too, I think! The badge had previously been like this... which then became this (I wasn't involved in that at all back then!)... So I reworked it last year to clean it up a bit, and the latest version is the one you saw on the twitter account: As used on the matchday programmes too (if anyone is interested)... https://issuu.com/chenerycreative/docs/iwfc_v_harleston-woodbridge_program_120da

It was a gold lion on red in 1968/69 as can be seen from the individual photos on this page. This reflects the badge I have from that season. https://englishfootballretrotv.blogspot.com/2016/02/ipswich-town-196869.html Incidentally, the individual photos are football stickers, and I still have mine from that season.

Being from that side of the towen I always kept an eye on the Wanderers when in the UK but never managed to get to a game...one day. I am trying to remember but would the ground be just inside the ipswich boundary ? [Post edited 22 May 2023 1:00]

The first version of the current badge with the Suffolk Punch was first used in 1972/3 season I think. It actually coincided with Robson’s first really good team that finished fourth. I rather liked the old badge too - it looked great on the Panini style stickers of the day.

Cheers. After being back to back champions in Thurlow Nunn Div One North, and then Thurlow Nunn Premier, we're going into the Isthmian League North next season, in Step 4, for the first time in the club's history (and indeed, for any Ipswich clubs, this is the first time there's been a Step 4 club!) - we'll be up against the likes of Bury Town (with Cole Skuse now in charge!), Felixstowe, Gorleston, Lowestoft Town, Stowmarket and Witham Town this season, so some good games in prospect! The boundary is a bit of a quirk, I believe. I think the driveway and front gate is within the Ipswich boundary, but the actual pitch/clubhouse etc falls under Suffolk Coastal.

So you are the Chester City F.C of Suffolk I thought it might be a bit odd knowing that area like I do...Our house and "estate" had a similar issue. Strong local scene it seems currently, will deffo be keeping an eye on the World outside of the 92 this coming season.
