Ventured into enemy territory for the Arctic Monkeys gig last night. I’ll be bang up for our games against them this season and can’t wait to beat them and finish above them, however I’m not one of these passionate ‘won’t wear yellow’ kind of people, I’ve got a fairly level head on things as much as I dislike the club.
However, the whole thing at Carrow Road last night was an absolute shambles. We were on the pitch so went around 3/4 of the stands in search of drinks etc. From what I could see all of their stands are either on a par or worse than the Cobbold stand which we’ve all agreed is outdated and needs replacing. Toilets were overflowing before the monkeys had even started. Awful concourses with tiny bars, the bars ran out of beer and cider before the gig had even started. We queued for at least 30 minutes each time we wanted a drink and the poor bar staff were shaking given how overworked they were and peoples increasing frustrations. They only had bottles of Prosecco when we got close to the front of the queue at one point, £35 for a bottle of Prosecco in a cardboard box was the only option, then, luckily just as we’d been served, the security came over and said that the bar had to shut in 2 minutes, leaving the young staff to deal with the fall out on their own. Given all the premiership money I’m amazed that they seemly haven’t made any improvements to their ground.
It was an absolute shambles, everyone was beyond p***ed off. Once the Portman Road pitch is sorted, hopefully we can stage these sorts of events and ensure they run a lot more successfully than our friends up the road! |  | | |  |

I think this is specifically what Gamechanger are planning to do - and do it well. Everything I've read and heard about their plans, not just at Portman Rd, but also Johnson's project in Pawtucket, suggests they want to create all round leisure/entertainment facilities to supplement the football club.
Indeed, that may be where they're looking for financial returns as much as from ITFC itself. |  |

Where the ground is situated it's hard for them to do a lot to develop it and they only have as much space as the current structure of the stands allows. Agree that it's a sh*te old ground though, always amazes me that it can hold 27k as it looks tiny. |  |

I concur. Ashton has said it a few times, making Portman Road 'sweat' 365 days a year. Through big events, concerts, corporate events etc. Shortsighted to have a 30,000 seater facility and limit it to 20 odd football matches a year. | | | |

Yeah completely agree, it needs to be generating money on far more occasions each year than it currently does. And honestly after last night there’s a real gap in the market there, we’re easier to get to from most parts of the country, our capacity is higher, the facilities are far better and still improving, and the service will hopefully carry on improving as well. Fingers crossed we can look forward to some big names and events at PR over the coming years. | | | |

Even my girlfriend commented on how small it is compared to PR and she’s only been in the stadium a handful of times. It’s mind blowing that their capacity isn’t far off of ours when you look around the ground! | | | |

We went to The Killers there this time last year, and it was ok.
Got some pre-drinks in Yellows, and you could take them outside in paper cup, and we went in through the away turnstiles and there was no-one there, we walked straight to the counter and got served more drinks and some food.
Mind you, this was halfway through the support act (Blossoms) and a lot of people had already gone on the pitch to see them. |  |

It wasn’t great. Felt like Arctic Monkeys felt like they shouldn’t be playing in such places and had zero interaction with the crowd which was disappointing. Good to see them but one of the warm acts were the Hives and they were really good entertainers and outshone Arctic Monkeys. | | | |

I'm a bit out of touch, but wasn't the plan to shut the road outside the City stand and build over it (now they built that other road alongside it)? That make everything more symmetrical, although I also like it's oddness. |  |
