Pulled threads 19:12 - Jul 21 with 3359 views | DJR | I don't intend this as an opportunity to continue the debate on the issues for which two threads were pulled today or to apportion blame, but I would just like to put on record (as someone who contributed to the first pulled thread) that it is not fair on those of us who try to debate issues seriously when people engage in behaviour which results in a thread being pulled. I contributed several posts today, but, with the pulling of the first thread, the time involved in doing so was completely wasted. And the few posts on the thread which debated the issues were overwhelmed by posts which didn't add to anyone's enlightenment. So think of others, don't bait, don't rise to any bait, and please debate kindly and constructively because, even if it isn't enough to have a thread pulled, there is too much personal abuse on here for my liking. Pulled threads on 19:37 - Jul 21 with 3223 views | Ryorry | I'd agree with you, but sometimes it's far from simply a question of "not rising to the bait", it's a question of needing to defend yourself against unjustified defamatory comments.

Pulled threads on 20:59 - Jul 21 with 2997 views | Swansea_Blue | Well said. Cheeses me off no end and makes me wonder why we bother posting. But then I try and put myself in Phil’s shoes and I really wouldn’t want the hassle of policing the same old arguments time and time again. It seems some posters can’t get past their personal history in arguing with each other. So I can’t blame him at all. Maybe they could be locked rather than deleted, but that’s the only answer I can think of to deal with it. Things get way too personal.

That shouldn't be happening, Ryorry, and I've noticed you appear to get more than your fair of it. Indeed, it was what I was getting at when I said debate kindly. I've also amended my original post to include the words "don't bait". [Post edited 21 Jul 2023 21:22]

Perhaps some people need everyday to read the advice on the terms and conditions for using TWTD which I hadn't looked at before because I wouldn't ever think of doing anything which would breach them. When posting material to the site, please follow these rules: Please respect your fellow posters and refrain from name calling and personal abuse Don't swear, post libellous, racist, homophobic, threatening or adult material or harass other users [Post edited 22 Jul 2023 7:51]

Nobody ever 'wins' TWTD, some are just bigger losers than others.

Admin have done a good job in booting off most of those responsible (or they've left voluntarily), but a couple who remain are having a disproportionate effect I think, unfortunately.

I've suggested before that Phil'n'Gav should use all their technical skills to put two posters, i.e. [name withheld] and [name also withheld], into an imposed mutual ignore that could only be removed by admin. Criteria for removal could be the passage of a certain amount of time, or the payment of an unfeasibly large cash sum to the charity of Phil'n'Gav's choice.* *This would be the TWTD Benevolent and Pension Fund.

We've had that facility for years but rarely used. Edit. I think we should be able to send posters to Coventry, meaning only they see their posts, nobody else can, including those not logged in or Google* * other search engines are available, probably.

I remember you doing that to Justin (NorwichBlue) once when he became uber annoying. Nobody could see his posts other than himself!
