here you go sitters "A googly, or "wrong'un", is a delivery which looks like a normal leg-spinner but actually turns towards the batsmen, like an off-break, rather than away from the bat. Unlike a normal leg-break, a googly is delivered out of the back of the hand, with the wrist 180 degrees to the ground" Can I suggest you make the effort to listen to Test Match Special radio commentary this summer. Its a the best way to learn about cricket, is just joyful pure entertainment and will make you want cake PS Please ask if you need to know the difference between off spin and wrist spin I can wrist spin, especially after breaking a finger, but last the ability to dislocate my shoulder to bowl off spin

Wisden dropped the term a couple of years ago. The chinaman was a left-handed bowlers' googly. Or something like that.

(n/t) on 16:54 - Jun 23 with 1713 views | Perublue | I watched the Afghan Aussie match live...it was thoroughly enjoyable and well deserved...the poor fielding by the Aussies was only matched by the greatness of the energy and passion of the Afghans....a lovely story however it ends at this tourney after watching their story develop over the last 2 decades as a team and a country. The Super 8’s of this tournament have been great. Unlike the p1ss poor group stage played on woeful pitches. [Post edited 23 Jun 2024 17:08]

Love the story in his book about how Warnie learnt to bowl the flipper Having been stuck at Karachi Airport he was chatting to Richie Benaud and mentioned he couldn't bowl the flipper. Benaud found a fruit vendor bought a load of oranges and taught Watnie how to bowl it in the middle of Karachi Airport

True, although those pitches at least rewarded the best batsmen unlike the roads in the IPL where I could score a century.

Nicely described. I couldn’t bowl to save my life. Fumbling about with the bat collecting bruises was more my thing. Enjoyed playing cricket, though it is a tough old game. Wish I’d been better at it. Nothing nicer than playing at say Tunbridge Wells, somewhere picturesque in the Weald or say down on the coast with the promise of a few beers after - as long as I wasn’t driving.
