There's something very strange with this whole situation tbh, I'm not sure what benefits there are to villa in all of this, but I find it odd how they sold him last summer yet agreed what personal terms he would be on when he came back...
Either way, i'd be more gutted if we didn't get greaves as we need a cb, but a flair player imo can be found out there easier than most other positions imo. |  |

Agree with this, naive of Philogene to see this for what it is. An opportunity to stock talent and get around PSR. Villa will keep him for a year, he will have a load of sub appearances and then they will sell him for 20/ 25M next summer for another 7M profit. | | | |

Yeah, imagine Ashton will take a few minutes to beat the crap out of a cushion or something. All that hard work to get him on the brink of joining then Villa swoop in last minute with pre-agreed terms and he changes his mind.
Clearly our first choice and disappointing to miss out but mindset has to be move on and crack on with getting an alternative target. |  |

I'll be disappointed when he's announced as a Villa player. I've been invested in his signature and thought he'd be so good for us. I do think it's his loss but it's up to him to be indispensable to his "new" club. Ah well, we move on. I mustn't get excited to.soon! |  |

I thought he had potential, but I can only base my opinion on the 2 games I watched him play last season, home and away to Town, and I didn't see anything amazing in those games. Appreciate 2 games isn't a fair judgement.
But I'm not convinced he would be an automatic stater ahead of a Chaplin or Broadhead, all 3 had similar stats last season.

His agent has probably destroyed any credibility in future negotiations. He has gone between Everton Palice , Wham and Town telling each that he desperately wants to go to each. Wonder how long Villa wait before they sell him on? |  |
