As awful and unpalatable as it is, if someone is deemed to have paid their debt to society (by being imprisoned) then surly that person has paid their debt to society and should be allowed to carry on with their life?

I don't, and I expect most would agree with me.
He can carry on with his life, but that doesn't mean he should be afforded such "luxuries" as competing in the Olympics, potentially ahead of people who haven't committed such crimes.

I never said that I accept that twelve months is sufficient, simply that what’s the point in prison if ex-prisoners are going to be punished when they are released? And I fully understand that that is an unpalatable thing to say.
Last week there was a thread on here about the lack of jail spaces and the real problem of prisoners reoffending. If prisoners aren’t allowed to go back to their lives then maybe this leads to many reoffending. | | | |
