How do we get our mojo back? 10:22 - Oct 22 with 2590 views | unstableblue | MOJO: “When someone loses their mojo they often lack energy, lack enthusiasm, lack self-belief, lack self-confidence or lack direction. We could say that losing our mojo is when we feel less successful. I would say it is also when we feel less in control.” Against Fulham at home we went toe to toe with an adventurous and energetic opponent. And deserved the win maybe more. Against Brighton away we defended with huge energy and belief, and kept a strong team at bay. Heroically at times. At Southampton we took the game to them and bossed the first half, but perhaps lost some momentum before our last minute equaliser. Against one of the Premier League’s best teams Villa, we matched them, incredible press and energy and in the second half we had them on the ropes with waves of attack. Then West Ham away and Everton at home we have become error strewn, energy less and seemed to have lost enthusiasm and belief. This passed into the home crowd against Everton who also lost their mojo. Why is this? And how do we get it back? McKenna and Morsy need to lead. We need Phillips and Morsy to start bossing the middle and leading the charge. We need someone like Ogbene, Clarke or Szmodics to emerge and to take Delap along with them. But maybe we just need a bit of Lady Luck, to sneak that win and build belief. When you take Axel and Greaves out of the team, the % of the team naturally able to compete in the Premiership drops. So energy, pressing, aggression and belief become even more important. In McKenna we trust, it’s only been two poor games, time to refind our special powers! [Post edited 22 Oct 2024 10:26]

How do we get our mojo back? on 10:29 - Oct 22 with 2518 views | FrimleyBlue | Revert back to our going at teams best rather than trying to stop the opponents. Let the players play without fear and do what they do best rather than trying to develop into something different to soon. Clarke hutch examples. Tell.morsy to get the yellow so we can get that suspension done and get the proper morsy back. Until that happens we will keep losing the midfield battle.

Whilst that might be what is needed, worth noting Chappers drop off in form and effectiveness during the second half of last year.

I agree, but I'll not write him off based on that, and he's had a good rest. He was getting into those old positions on Sat.

I would try this too. I would also start Harry Clarke and certainly Woolfy as they are passionate about the club (not deriding the other players at all, but a couple that have the club in their hearts might help the dynamic a little). I would ask Delap to break his spherical things for 60 mins and bring on Hirst at 60 with one or two others from the cavalry. Id ask the same of Luongo. In other words try the system they know so well. These thoughts are of course why I’m not a football manager!
How do we get our mojo back? on 12:07 - Oct 22 with 2156 views | Guthrum | Might be inclined to start Broadhead or Szmodics at inside left, with Jack Clarke coming off the bench. A bit of extra energy at the beginning, with trickery against tiring opponents later in the match. Once Clarke clicks and starts scoring, he can be back in contention to begin games. How do we get our mojo back? on 12:08 - Oct 22 with 2161 views | Illinoisblue | Cut out the stupid errors. Obviously no player or team will ever be error-free but some of our mistakes this season have been criminal. Greaves poor clearance v Villa, OShea inexplicably heading the ball back into the box instead of out v Everton. These are schoolboy errors. And we’re getting punished nearly every time. Get in the opposition box more. Captain Obvious here but we are very easy to play against and offer minimal threat in most games. That has to change. Sammie S and Chappers need to be more involved. Phillips needs to do much better. J Clarke needs to impose himself more. For the record I do think we’ll somehow scrape enough points for survival. But a win before Xmas would probably help with that…. COYB

I watched the goals back yesterday and I think O'Shea actually tries to glance it out for a corner, but his head turns into a 50p coin. But yes, we've given away too many goals from really sloppy play that you'd be annoyed at at any level of football. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
How do we get our mojo back? on 12:27 - Oct 22 with 2059 views | seblue78 | Chaplin really struggled to impose himself in the Champ at times. To somehow think he's going to do so in the Prem, where the pace and physicality are on a wholly different level, is a bit of a stretch to say the least. Him having an ok 15-20 mins against an Everton side that had begun to ease off is a bit misleading in my view.

“Really struggled” is a harsh take.

Each to their own. "At times" particularly second half of the season I thought he looked well off it last year.

Players have been written off before. Personally, I prefer not to.

How do we get our mojo back? on 13:22 - Oct 22 with 1803 views | ibbleobble | Watching Wood last night I want to see Hirst start up top and Delap LW or RW with Broadhead on the other wing and Szmodics through the centre as the 10. We need the physicality, the ball retention, the running from deep and the efforts at goal. Omari and Clarke from the bench. While our biggest problem has been defending, ball retention at times in the final third has been poor.
How do we get our mojo back? on 13:57 - Oct 22 with 1678 views | seblue78 | Not sure that's writing him off - he will doubtless have a part to play - just not convinced he's the answer to our current shortcomings. Be interesting to see what impact Cajuste might have once he's fully fit. Should add some pace and bite.
How do we get our mojo back? on 14:33 - Oct 22 with 1592 views | tonybied | Harry Clarke returning is a big plus, and will hopefully go some way in the cover need whilst Axel is out. He looked positive when he came on against Everton, and although he's defensive side is nowhere near Axel's level his support of the right hand side going forward could help immensely!

He also has the hunger we need.
How do we get our mojo back? on 17:25 - Oct 22 with 1372 views | Kev_W | Some combination of: - strengthening the midfield by some sort of tweak to the formation - playing those who can contribute the needed physicality and pace (including thought) - leaders leading on and off the pitch - e.g.Chaplin. Luongo could more important in the squad than on the pitch; pushing Philips into more of that role; encouraging O'Shea to be vocal in defence as he was a few games ago etc etc - maybe trying some less expected variations - Hirst in the middle Delap on the right (his frequent Hull position) - continuing what will already be happening to integrate the newer players etc - not lapsing in to the pretence that the team of last season or the one before is a realistic solution. My hunch is the KM can and sort this - whether it will be enough for survival - maybe.
How do we get our mojo back? on 18:25 - Oct 22 with 1320 views | MK1 | How about Muric. Johnson, Woolfy, Burgess, Davis. Morsy, Luongo. Hutchinson, Szmodics, Delap. Hirst. If not, I would swap out Szmodics and play Taylor as a third in Midfield. We need a win as soon as possible just for moral. Once they have done it once, they will believe they can do it again and again and again and.....
