Congestion on Sir Alf Way before game bad again. 22:38 - Dec 3 with 3001 views | ITFC_Forever | Walking from the Fanzone to the back of the SBR was a mission, so many people trying to get in the West Stand… and they had some of the turnstiles shut(!).

And they don’t even use them. When the queue gets as big as they were, they do one in every ten people at most.

Congestion on Sir Alf Way before game bad again. on 22:52 - Dec 3 with 2839 views | LankHenners | Missed the start of the game (as did lots of others) trying to get into the Cobbold stand. Stewards (or more specifically one steward) taking too long scanning and patting people down then once the match had already kicked off gave up on it and just let everyone shuffle through as normal. If they're going to do that they need more stewards at every turnstile 'clearing' multiple people at a certain point so you don't just end up with queues going back into the car park and snaking round each other which causes chaos.

As I was going through one steward said to another ‘is it just bags’ (as in just search the bags) and he said yeah, plus scan anyone that looks suspicious.

There, presumably to solve issue of people buying for upstairs and moving downstairs. Used to be combined. Fewer issues. Especially as they seem to have bunched the upper tier ones at one end and the lower at the other, meaning people have to walk at each other, instead of just entering the stand at the end they came in at. If that's the case perhaps the stewards should be scanning each other as well.

Congestion on Sir Alf Way before game bad again. on 23:07 - Dec 3 with 2643 views | DublinBlue84 | I went into the West Stand at 7pm and there as no queues at all for the North either so must have been a lot of people coming later that contributed to it. [Post edited 3 Dec 2024 23:07]

That's because there wasn't this level of scanning last season, or this season prior to the Everton game.

Cumulative on top of the other stuff like security paddles. Also fewer people entering West Stand from Fanzone tonight due to weather and match time. [Post edited 3 Dec 2024 23:11]

It sounds absurd, given the scale of PL finances, but it could be there simply aren't enough stewards to call on. A friend of mine is a Colchester steward. He says the U's are short of stewards, - but also that quite a few are also Town stewards, and they tell him Town are very short of stewards and he's often asked if he'd do Town games too. He says no, because at Colchester it's kind of a labour of love and a bit of beer money, but it's not worth his while going up the A12. The whole thing at both clubs sounds very amateurish, based on loyalty and not much else.

The steward at my entrance was making everyone unzip coats and empty all pockets onto a table before he’d start scanning, as well as searching thoroughly through bags. It was like going through an airport. Took ages. I’ve learned my lesson. Next time, pick a different steward.

No it isn’t. It wasn’t an issue last season, and the worst of the congestion was by the West Stand turnstiles.

The club have clearly had a Premier League visit and been told “you’re not going enough”

Yes it is. Fact is that the stand access is not as it was originally designed and built and used. Instead of access to both tiers through all turnstiles for the last couple of years we have had 60% of the crowd restricted to 50% of the turnstiles and once inside 25% of the stairwells to the upper tier open. Despite increasingly sold out crowds it hasn't caused an issue until recently when the imbecile supposedly in charge of Stadium access decided to deliberately slow down the flow to the turnstiles with unnecessary oppressive scan and search "security" checks.
