Thursday night under the lights, Brighton, big game - how you feeling? 09:43 - Jan 14 with 2228 viewsunstableblue

Important match on Thursday at 7.30 (TNT).

The two recent performances and results, 4 points from games home to Chelsea and away to Fulham have been positive, and better than we would have expected a few weeks back.

For me another good performance and the minimum of a point, would keep us ticking along nicely prior to securing some more talent in January.

We’re in a tough run now, and points will be hard to come by. A loss and a reduction in performance Thursday quality would be a blow - we have Brighton (h), Man City (h), Liverpool (a), Saints (h), Villa (a), Spurs (h), United (a).

We put in a superb defensive performance away at the AMEX earlier in the season, where Axel out in a masterclass performance against Mitoma. And let’s not forget key saves from Muric. And in recent games Town have started to make that defensive solidity and switching the deep block the norm.

But I feel Brighton’s young manager, Hurzeler, is turning a bit of a corner in form and performance from recent months and they’ll be coming for the win. Despite having just delivered 4 draws - Arsenal (h), Villa (a), Brentford (h), West Ham (a). Goals and wins perhaps their current issue.

Going to be interesting to see McKenna line-up and approach with so many injuries across the front line. Hutchinson, Szmodics, Ogbene, Chaplin all out.

For me this is going to be a tight one… and I think 1-1 draw, BUT if the home fans really fire-up and McKenna can find a recipe from the resources he has a win is possible. Perhaps this is the line-up:

——————Walton
Godfrey—OShea—Greaves—-Davis
Johnson—Morsy—-Cajuste
———-Broadhead — J Clarke
——————-Delap

With Davis sitting deeper.

Thanks Gid Hirst is back, as the bench looks incredibly lite going forward.
Could see Burns, Taylor and Phillips being close to the starting 11.

How do you think it’s going to go? Starting 11?

Having watched Brighton (both in our game and some others) a lot of their strength comes from overloading out wide, so I do wonder whether there is another shift out there for O'Shea in a horses for courses type decision. I certainly have no issue with our defensive shape in recent games and it doesn't stop us creating chances like that.

On paper this is the second easiest of that run in. It is really difficult to judge where your points will come from, but the only must-win game is at home against Southampton.
We really need to make our home matches count and make Portman Road a fortress.
Liverpool away sticks out as the toughest fixture, but all the rest I would not be surprised by any result from a narrow win to a heavy defeat.

Against Brighton, we just have to hope that we turn up and they don't, and the luck goes our way.

Interesting Brighton coming to town, potentially no Rutter, but Welbeck could be back.

Gonna be a very tough game. BUT if we stick to our recent style, we have a chance

For me:

——————Walton
—O'Shea—Woolf—Burgess—-Davis
Burns—Morsy—-Cajuste
———-Taylor— Broadbean
——————-Delap

Bit non-standard but with the injuries we have it's a great chance to get Taylor in the side, especially as we now have Phillips fit to come on later in the game. J.Clarke frankly is not in league form, and despite his goal at the weekend I don't think he made a huge claim for a league start. I also wouldn't want to move Broadhead from the left ten role he's looked so good in.

Johnson to replace Burns as a defensive sub mid-way through the second half.

I wonder if Hutchinson might be seen on the bench, which would be a boost.

All I know is I am excited and optimistic for this one - first game I have been able to get a ticket for this season (other than the league cup V AFC Wimbledon), and my first time seeing Ipswich in the PL ever.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Godfrey come in straight away, at either CB or RB but equally i think we may play Johnson for the familiarity, and he got 45 at Bristol Rovers which i wasn't expecting.

Walton
Johnson O'Shea Woolf Burgess Davis
Morsy Cajuste
Broadhead Taylor
Delap

I'd love to see Phillips start ahead of Morsy but doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Think Broadbean is a bit green for such a big game.

I’d start Broadbean too.

Put a couple of runners either side of him and take him of around 70mins when he’s baked.

They've got quite a few doubts, but they'll still have a decent team, maybe not depth on the bench though.

I think this is the type of game we could knick in the second half with Hirst coming on. I'll go for 2-1 Ipswich or something.

Walton
O'Shea Woolfenden Greaves
Johnson Morsy Cajuste Davis
Taylor Broadhead
Delap
