Philogene then 08:14 - Jan 17 with 2647 views | textbackup | What can we hope for from him? Not seen him play, highlights aside, but in my head he’s just another OM. And being young and inexperienced very likely to blow hot and cold

It’s all lovely on paper saying ‘we have three England u21’s in our attack’ But in reality if we are just hoping that one of them can pick the ball up, and take on 3 defenders, and score… then it’s a really expensive frontline to not really do a lot.

And in order to do that, you need the ball which in some games it takes us half an hour to get hold of.

Think the biggest thing he’ll give us in the short term is an alternative to Omari? Last night showed that we really struggle when he isn’t having a great game, or Delap isn’t playing like he did against Chelsea
Philogene then on 08:32 - Jan 17 with 2261 views | Kieran_Knows | Would really like to see us get an experienced head amongst the group. Something we know McKenna values what with Keogh and Aluko over the last couple years. Would certainly take Matic on a 6-18 month deal.

I feel like we need an experienced head or two in that front 4 as well. It would be exciting to have a front 4 of Doak, Omari, Philogene, Delap but you are going to get inconsistency. Appreciate it is hard to find a player with 100+ PL games under their belt that is available and that would come here. Perhaps we may see what other clubs squads shape up like and use our 2nd PL loan here.

We miss that so much. Completely unrealistic I know, and I’ve said this a number of times and boring myself, but Danny Welbeck would have actually be my perfect signing for this season. Someone like him to do what he does, dreamy

OR Broadhead / Hutchinson / Burns OR Clarke / Chaplin / Hutchinson I think we need to make the front 3 play in their best postions and roles and go back to basics like we did with the defence.
Philogene then on 08:54 - Jan 17 with 2127 views | BloomBlue | If he can finally replicate what he did in the Champ then we'll have a fantastic player who can create and score goals. If we get the version AV have had this season with one of the best managers in the league then we will have a very expensive player who looks like they won a raffle to play in the PL.

That’s my worry… That said, if we do go down (and we don’t have to sell) we could have one hell of a squad for the championship

It’s a tough one, as even though we’ve brought in players we look more effective with the old guard. Chappers, Broady and Morsy especially make us tick. And Leif’s quality is still there even if he’s less influential than last season. Too many changes maybe? Seems daft to say it as we all saw the need to upgrade, but I do wonder what would have happened if we’d kept more of the old team together.

Philogene then on 09:13 - Jan 17 with 1967 views | tonybied | We can hope that he gives us that extra bit of magic we need to create a bit more. What I think he will give us now is a little of that, mixed with some frustration (similar to Omari). The Hull fans seem to think he doesn't look up as much as he should. Hopefully though, he'll hit the ground running, in good form and McKenna will work his magic to improve on his weaknesses but it'll probably take time. If we do stay up this season this group has a real chance of maturing into something special, and I think that is the plan. Much of it will depend on survival though. I expect we will get a good chunk of the team picked apart if we do go down, much like Burnley and Luton. Hopefully, we can be more Burnley than Luton if we do go down. Back to the original topic though, Philogene will be another rough diamond that requires patience.

Chappers Broad and Morsy earned their place in the PL last season, many of the others just got lucky with our transfer policy.

With a smidge of inconsistency likely due to age/experience? (Expected so not looking at it negatively)

What we have in our favour is that those teams didn't have a Delap that they could flog for £40/50/60m which along with parachute payments should give us a lot of financial muscle to hang on to players providing they don't spit their dummy out and agitate for a move.

I think every premier league winger is fairly inconsistent tbh unless they are playing for one of the top clubs. He is a very exciting dribbler. If eh stands you up One V One, he can make you look very very silly. [Post edited 17 Jan 13:14]

Apart from the freak exception of Leicester, how can you be a PL winner without playing for one of the top clubs?

Indeed, but what we do have is a team of players that have played in the Premier League and will most likely want to stay there if we don't. Next years promoted teams will want some of that experience much like we did with Muric, O'Shea and Ogbene. Are we going to stand in their way if we get an offer and the player wants to go? That creates issues in itself.

Besides Delap and Szmodics the rest of the summer signings have on most occasion flattered to deceive - in fact it’s Broadhead who looks like a new signing now. The old guard had an almost telepathic connection to be in the right place in the right time but this constant tweaking of formation and new players have affected performances no doubt. How many of Burns’ pull backs last night found a Town player? None. We had a few poor games last season like the 2-0 loss at WBA and 0-0 with Stoke and Watford at home but it is becoming a common occurrence this season. Most of the players we bring in are talented BUT inexperienced especially in the Prem. It’s like fielding a U21 team against senior players and hoping for the best.

Burns's excellent pull backs didn't find a player because Chaplin wasn't there and none of the others have the gumption to get in that position.
