VAT 10:21 - Feb 14 with 1740 views | DJR | Trump is saying VAT is a tariff: tariff being defined as a tax imposed by one country on the goods and services imported from another country No it's not. It's a purchase or consumption tax, which applies to both imported and domestic goods and services. If Trump and his advisers really believe what he says, it just shows how ignorant they all are. More generally, what Trump is doing on tariffs and elsewhere could be said to be a modern day equivalent of the imperialist gunboat diplomacy that Western powers engaged in relation to less powers in the 19th Century. Except he's also doing it in relation to Western powers. [Post edited 14 Feb 11:30]

Quizzing their aptitude and competence to be in charge. Now Trump says something like that every five minutes and theres just so much everyone gives up. He is so volatile the west don't know how to deal with him in case he just goes full Putin and pulls the rug from under everyone.

VAT on 11:40 - Feb 14 with 1540 views | Churchman | Exactly this. He’s basically looking to enrich himself and America at the expense of others using any tripe he can think of. In other words, ‘I’ll take what I want and f you’ Pariah state to join Russia and others.
VAT on 11:47 - Feb 14 with 1492 views | hype313 | What's laughable is him wanting to impose huge tariffs on Mexico and Canada, most Pizza places in the US get their tomatoes from Mexico, so they'll end up paying more for a Pizza than ordinarily, due to them punching themselves in the face. And he wants to bring economic prosperity back to his cults, I mean voters. Yeah but he gets things done....

Very much like Boris Johnson, agree to any old rubbish deal and then boast, "I got it done" completely forgetting that agreeing to everything is not the best way to do things.

I wonder how it'll all pan out - will Europe, in particular, largely go along with it all , perhaps with the odd thrown bone to soften the blow, or do something with a stiffer back? If its the latter, we'd better get ready to spend a lot more on defense.

he's trolling the world; the best thing to do may be to nod and ignore him, whilst making positive plans to increase trade/co-operation with friendly nations

VAT on 12:30 - Feb 14 with 1319 views | Churchman | An ESTA costs £17 to visit the US. The new ETA requirement for US citizens costs £10. About 5 million visited last year. Ramp up the fee, exclusively for Americans for equivalence, and that’s £35m extra for the pot. Why should we be ripped off? Petty and pathetic? Ohhhhhhh yesss. 🖕🏻you Trump.

You'd be amazed how many of our US chums have no awareness that we need to purchase an ESTA to enter the "home of the free and land of the brave" . . . but boy when a couple of my US colleagues came over last week for some meetings they got freaked that they now had to buy an ETA to enter the UK . . . hilarious. The point is not to benefit his cult, it's to enrich himself, his mates and his handlers Vlad and Elon.

Exactly. Reduce income tax for all his rich pals and offset it by collecting tariffs that everyone else (in the US) pays for buying said pizzas etc.

A decade ago? If Biden had said something like that whilst President the Republicans would have seized on it, saying it showed how senile he was.
