So if we win tomorrow... 16:01 - Apr 4 with 1821 viewsJoey_Joe_Joe_Junior

Does it do anything to phycology of the relegation fight? If that's a thing. Is it suddenly back on? I am still personally leaning no, essentially 7 points would still be a mountain to climb. The only way it gets really interesting to me is if we get within 4 points or so with 3 games left. However, Wolves were basically celebrating survival against WHU at Full Time. I do wonder if a win might get them a little nervy.

If they failed to win Tuesday and it was 5 points now that would have been huge going into Saturday but we are where we are.

It would certainly do something psychologically im sure. Wolves would be a bit less comfortable, we would be a bit more confident. No doubt about that.

Like you though, I think it is just too late even if we win. 6 points and GD. Arsenal and Chelsea and Newcastle next. I can't see it.

But who knows.... Stranger things have happened.

Would have to win at a minimum 5 of 8 including Saturday. With the run post Wolves, just can't see it.

Equally if they failed to win on Tuesday what's to say the psychology of that meant we didn't then go and beat Muff. Might've allowed us to play with a little more freedom etc. Hard to know innit.

Ultimately we're not staying up, psychology or otherwise. I still want us to smash them though as I'd like to at least get to 30 points and tomorrow looks a good opportunity to stick another tick in the W column.

It's possible it'll have a small impact but they've still got a huge advantage even if we beat them. Even with a win tomorrow, I give us about a 1% chance of staying up. Overhauling 6 points plus goal difference with only 7 games to go would be a truly remarkable feat and the sort of thing that happens very, very rarely. We'd need their form to collapse and for us to pick up another 4 wins minimum to have a chance.

re: form collapse, we need guthrum's table to confirm, but they're averaging 2 points a game over the past 5. if they carry that on, we have to win every game!

let's just win and see what happens...

The gap essentially goes from a 'massive' 13 points, to a 'very big' 7 points.

It would still take a miracle, but I guess there is a slight glimmer of hope.

If nothing else, it would be good to finish the season in some sort of form to give us confidence going in to next season.

...but first we need a win on Sat.

If we draw on Saturday, it's virtually game over, unless you think we can pick up 9 more points than Wolves from our final 7 games. that looks highly unlikely as we haven't put together even 2 wins in a row & Wolves have been in decent form, even without Cunha.

Agreed.

TBH, I just hope we can pick up a bit of form to gain some pride and take a little confidence into next season.

If it was 3 points (+GD) at the end of April there's a chance we could do it, we would by definition be in good form and be facing 4 sides in May potentially already on the beach.

For that to be true we would probably need to beat them tomorrow, then outpace them by 3 points across the next 3 games. We've got Chelsea, Newcastle, Arsenal. They've got Spurs, United, Leicester. That looks unlikely for a number of reasons.

Either way we need to beat them tomorrow. Cut the gap to 6, keep the unlikely dream alive for a bit longer and at least retain some jeopardy on our games for as long as possible.

You say that but if we win two games in a row I and one of them is against them I bet the mood changes somewhat, even if it's kind of unrealistic.

I currently have us at about 2-3% jumping to 7% with a win.

Then we we smash Chelsea it's game on lol.

Agreed. The big issue is that it requires us showing the sort of form that we havent come close to showing all season, and requires more wins from 8 matches than we have managed from 30.

Needs a miracle. But who knows.

...equally, the season could be over by 5pm on Sat.

Imagine hitting serious form and going down by like 2-3 points, then I'd be genuinely annoyed with all the points we threw away. There is something a bit more accepting by going down with the sort of gap we face now to be fair.

Wolves players are volatile though, even Tuesday they were getting into it.

I'd much rather go down by just 2-3 points.

We cant change the past. I tend to think that all teams generally get what they deserve. I'm sure other teams have had 'bad luck' too.

yes, would rather go down fighting knowing the margins are smaller for our next shot at it.

if we go down by 20 points, we won't be looking forward to being promoted nearly as much!

The only one I am genuinely annoyed about is the Leicester game. The penalty decision was a disgrace and I didn’t think Phillips’ sending off was right either. The rest? Swings and roundabouts for me. After all these games the table doesn’t lie and nor will it at the end of the season.

Regardless of tomorrow, I believe we’ve left it too late and Wolves’ form has improved dramatically, but you never know. Keep going, keep fighting. Strange things happen in sport.

I think you can probably include the 2 points dropped at Fulham. If Clarke's shot goes wide and out of play, we reset and likely see out the last 1-2 mins.

Personally, the Bournemouth home game also rankles with me too. The game was in the palm of our hand and Muric's rush of blood takes the game from our grasp. I think, including Leicester, there's 5 points there out of the 22 from winning positions that *should* have been easily pocketed IMO.
