They are going to "pass" on peace talks if there is no progress.
Like they were ever genuine.
He talks about peace talks as if they are someone offering him a second hand car, which he can take or leave. This is the same man who said he'd solve it in 24 hours. He has no genuine interest in peace at all. People stood up to him and said no to capitulation, which conflicts with his Russian trade ambitions, so he will drop it as an inconvenience.
The US is a terrifying prospect now. Russia has US and Chinese support.

Plan B is let Russia crush Ukraine, which it will eventually and do the deal with them. It’s not a problem either way for Trump and neither is placing the blame. Ukraine started it, VZ is an evil unelected dictator and they brought it on themselves.
Job done. Not hard to see that sacrificing a claim that he brought peace really doesn’t amount to much when one is reorganising and parcelling up the world.
And Trump has been invited to the U.K. on a state visit? If there are any organised protests I’ll join them if I can. I don’t want that disgusting, authoritarian piece of work here.

This appears to be why they have been absurdly blaming Ukraine for it all from the start. Its the foundation for switching sides when Russia dont want to play ball, and Trump doesnt want to be hard on Russia.

No humanity, no integrity no compassion and no kindness. The worst kind of human being who is actually quite a damaged individual. Not fit to run a parish council let alone a country, let alone a super power. Those who know this yet have still fawnwd over him and enabled him are the guilty ones. There will always be morons like Trump, but in sane times they don't get anywhere

So does that mean just pulling out of peace talks but will continue to supply weapons to Ukraine or pulling out of peace talks & supplying weapons?
No further aid bill has been put to congress for when the last of Biden money runs out ,so that will be it from Trump! Up to Europe to step up even more I’m afraid. According to some reports the US approached us about stepping back from our support to Ukraine for various ‘deals’ to happen but were told to do one👍

They’ll be a few theses on the psychology of people who enable characters like Trump. See also Boris Johnson. It wouldn’t happen in football. An owner wouldn’t appoint a manager who they knew was utterly unsuited. They may be clueless and appoint a bad fit (see Evans), but they wouldn’t knowingly appoint someone to the detriment of the club. God knows why we do it when it comes to politics.

It sort of happens when a club appoints a ‘club legend’ or somebody that is a bit famous to be the manager. Fingers crossed for Donal Trumps Budgies in the near future - for the sake of Ukraine if nothing else.

A hope those reports are true. Starmer needs a bit more of a public spine if he cares about taking people with him. He’s got a choice now. I’m not convinced he can continue to play a neutral, passive game. It’s not going to be possible to get the best of both worlds from the EU and US. Not now those to are diametrically opposed and verging towards enemies almost. He’s going to have to nail his colours to the mast at some point, and I don’t think that mast should be flying the Stars and Stripes. They’re too unpredictable and untrustworthy to bet our future on.

Maybe. Normally you’d have some reason to be hopeful. Take Majic for example - he was a leader as a player and there was nothing to suggest he’d be a bad choice (and he wasn’t really). Even Keane had had some success, but yes I’d agree Evans was a bit start struck there - he probably didn’t think he would be a bad fit and go with it anyway.
A parallel in football would be appointing Barry Bennell to run the academy. Nobody would do it.

Trump talks about a state visit in September but any visit that month won’t be a state visit as the King will be at Balmoral not in London.
Trump is clueless, he has the attention span of a Gold fish. it will be a private visit, as Starmer said in the Oval Office.

State visit will come later.
I understsood, though didnt fully agree with Starmer;s approach to this visit. A carrot for Trump which may have helped us and even Ukraine.
Given his behaviour since, it should be withdrawn. No equivocation. To do otherwise is appeasement of an authoritarian leader with no interest in the rule of law, acting recklessly and agressively towards friends and neighbours whilst assisting other agressors.

I agree Swansea. He’s got a choice now and he needs to make it.
In terms of untrustworthy and unpredictable, the US always was and always will be. There are many examples but when it comes down to it, the world is changing. Rapidly. We are seeing the growth and popularisation of authoritarians and dictators. The US has joined that club.
We are in a new age of Empire building where the rules are take what you want and what you can. I keep hearing how split American is. Well if that’s the case, the opponents to Trumpism need to move fast before he shuts down them and any checks and balances the US might have had.
The U.K. doesn’t need to play their game any longer than it takes to unpick our military entanglement. Given their objectives are different, the sooner the better.
The choice is hoping for crumbs from Trump that’ll never materialise or moving closer to Europe and trade partners that the US is growing ever more hostile to, with the exception of China. That includes Japan and Canada who Trump is impoverishing so they can easily be absorbed. Free trade works. Protectionism doesn’t.
Does switching America off mean risk and cost? Yes. But the risk and costs of siding with that lot are a lot greater. It’s a new world order that won’t look anything like how Trump thinks it will.
Time to decide KS.

Have you ever negotiated before, serious question. If you park the tribal, emotive politics you crave, of course they want peace.
You have to have two willing partners both prepared to compromise to achieve it.., this is part of the negotiation, but I don’t doubt they’d walk away.
What’s the alternative, the indulge the games of both parties for eternity, while innocent people die?
Who’d want to be party to that…, you’ve landed in a very strange place. Throwing exclusively young boys, in the back of vehicles to go to their version death…, fuelling a never ending war where almost ONE MILLION men have died. You’ve made BILLIONS for defence companies, and the media narrative has ignored entirely the men they have died and suffered. It’s almost like there a corporate objective.
The US already have sealed with the Ukraine in place, so there is no benefit to Russia victory, it’s a huge long term threat to the US…, just as aligning China and Russia was a huge threat, something your narrative of a never ending war had done brilliantly well.
Can I ask what experience you have of telling to Ukrainian and Russian people and what practical involvement you’ve had in the conflict?
Or are these strong views through the prism of a media bubble that makes billions from continued tightening, and the echo chamber of you bubble that isn’t grounded in anything real.
We none of us know for sure.., except you it seems.., you’re certain.., if only because you hate Trump.., how evil is that.
Millions dead. And even that is only a proxy for your politics.

I know it's a bank holiday weekend, but it's still far too early to be drinking this heavily.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.
