Someone like Marc Guiu, for example, would be a pretty ridiculous signing at this level and our only chance of landing him is by getting in and giving him the big sell before other clubs start taking more serious interest. More generally McKenna's already said we've made initial contact with clubs and their players who we want.
Problem for us is probably that the players we've enquired about will be confident that interest from further up the food chain is forthcoming. | |

I’m assuming our interest wasn’t that serious given the outcome. Maybe we see Hirst as number 1 now (hence new deal) and didn’t rate this chap highly enough to put up a fight with silly money to just be a backup..
No disrespect to Derby, but if we’d wanted him our financial clout and expectations should have trumped theirs. |  |

I'm presuming the difference has been that Derby are pitching to him to come and be their main man - not sure our pitch would be the same with George Hirst just signing a new contract with us.
