Brum result in context of this afternoon 20:29 - Aug 9 with 1510 viewsAlpineBlue

Thought we made a few mistakes last night, and the performance wasn't great.
However, I don't believe Birmingham will play with that much intensity again this season, or be able to generate such a hostile atmosphere again.
We were missing some seriously good players, were obviously rusty and lacking confidence. However we came out of it with a draw.

Meanwhile today, Southampton scraped past Wrexham at home, who are nowhere near Birmingham's standard. Sheffield United got battered by Bristol City.

In the coming weeks we'll have Philogene, Cajuste and maybe Akpom. Who knows, maybe even Omari. Matuswa will grow into the Championship after last night's Baptism of Fire and Ognene will get better with every minute on the field.

Can't help but look at last night's result as a big hurdle overcome and a very valuable point.

Brum away will be a difficult game for everyone. They are quite possibly going to be rivals to us for promotion. Therefore a draw away to them is a decent result. We were poor but it was a scrappy game and we did enough. The games come around fast in this league so this one will quickly be forgotten.

I honestly feel like if we'd played Birmingham 3rd or 4th game of the season instead of Day One, we' d have been able.to handle them much more comfortably.
I think we looked very rusty, and very nervous. I think it was a scappy game because they decided to make it that way. A couple more weeks of training together, we'd have looked more composed, and.a couple more games into the season and Birmingham wouldn't have the energy levels to play with that kind of intensity.

I was pretty down after the game last night, but seeing the results today, I really think we did OK.

We’d have to have more than a penalty being our only shot on target, though.

We had the best chances throughout, irrespective of whether they were on target. Palmer didnt make a save.

That Sammy chance. After he gets a couple of goals. He fakes the shot then passes it bottom right into the corner

a niche perspective

Chances? Plural? The Sammy miss. And the Lief miscue that went way wide. Was there anything else? It’s not a lot for 100 mins of football.

Spot the comparitive nature of the comment. What better chances did Birmingham have?

For them supposedly playing really well, they didn't create a great deal of chances either did they in fairness

A few skewed Stansfield shots from their best moves but they rarely got in behind, it was only really that Kyogo chance which came from a few mistakes

Indeed. We had the better chances, though less of the ball I would say.

Hirsts header, Taylor’s header. Both good chances but poor executions. Although in fairness Stansfield had 2 big chances and miscued, stayed them when should have done a lot better.

bit lucky to get a point really

something still a bit off about trying to play the old version of a McKenna system with new players

O'shea greaves palmer better players than Woolf burgess hladky probably

but when you see us trying to pull the opposition apart with the same tactics , seems less convincing

missed Morsy

we still need to sign about four players let's be honest

we'll piss the league etc

We did look nervous, as can be expected after a season of being battered every week. We were in our shells for most of the game. Don't mean to get too OTT but not losing was massive, and could (we'll never really know) be the most important result in a promotion-winning season.

Sadly, i could say the same for southampton. They looked in worse shape than us though. We can exploit their defence next week. Kieffer moore scared the life out of edwards, and quarshie was all over the place.

Let’s dial everything back a bit. It’s very easy to get caught in the football writers tinted view of promotion for Ipswich. Yes that’s what we all hope and want. Reality is always very different. I’ve seen this club relegated on each occasion since 1990. It’s never been an easy return to whichever league we are striving for, we’ve never seen an immediate bounce. I do hope this time can be different given the attacking talent at our disposal but like everyone else has recognised, our midfield is decimated with no immediate positive outlook. More money and more time are the things we have, patience is critical.

We have to build back up, get the players playing, keep the club together, build match confidence, and earn a promotion one game at a time.
