Can someone explain the rationale behind him removing his shirt to hold it up? I think most of the people in the crowd know who he is, and they probably couldn't read his name from where they were anyway. |  |

I think it was brought in to avoid the unseemly sight of a bare chest! Now players all have layers underneath the shirt in the same colour, it really is time for the rule to go. |  |

There was also several occasions when players struggled to get their shirts back on for the restart - I remember Diego Forlan in particular playing skins for a couple of minutes at one point. | | | |

It’s exactly this. Same reason why cyclist on Tour de France have to zip their top up before going over the line when winning a stage- sponsors pay in part to be visible on the pics when good things happen. | | | |
