Ignorant idiots having a pop at Hirst 18:34 - Oct 25 with 1725 viewsjasondozzell

Watch Philogene's saved effort from the first half. That is made possible by very neat hold up play under pressure from Hirst and an excellent and quick ball out wide that put Jaden on the front foot. It's not an easy ball, looked like almost outside of the foot flick but with enough on it to be perfectly weighted and angled.

People cheering the substitution aren't supporters. Hirst was probably there getting this team out of league one before they even turned up.

Azon in his 20 mins probably gave the ball away as many times as Hirst as well as not putting away some seriously good chances. As it happens I think Azon is quite good and thought he looked a handful when he came on, but there were a fair few moments from him that George Hirst would have got serious stick for. Don't think Hirst got a hell of a lot of help from Szmodics or Akpom either.

I survived Ipswich 0-0 Burton

He didn't get any service.

It's probably the most demanding job in a KM team being the number 9.

I even heard boos as he went off. F'ing chavs.

He's not been that bad. He had a few moments today where he influenced the play well, including the moment you're talking about. It could even be a dummy or a piece of movement that opens up space for someone else.

He's just struggling when he's got any kind of time on the ball, and that points massively to confidence to me. And that tells you people getting on his back won't help.

George Hirst will be fine.

Are you ok? Every post is having a pop at people you perceive to be new supporters, it's weird. How do you know how long people cheering/moaning have been going?

There were definitely lots of miserable sods going in the Keane, Jewell and MMc years too.

He was terrible. Confidence seems totally shot. But I would never boo individuals unless they are clearly not trying (which he certainly is)

Can't remember a substitution of a hard working and important player being cheered even during the direst of those times.

It never happened. Even in the Duncan years.

I didn't notice cheers where I was, Cobbold A block, but that isn't great. But Hirst has been poor and is clearly struggling in terms of form and confidence.

Hirst put in another good shift for the team. I’ve said myself he needs to sharpen up a bit, but he still makes a good contribution.

I do want to see Azon get a few more starts, but that’s to help him, and balance the pressure of playing No9 in our system.

Get behind him, not on his back.

He was decent for the first half hour, linked up very nicely a couple of times with Szmodics too. You’d think one of our double promotion winning team would have credit in the bank not to be treated like sh7t by a section of our support - but they evidently need something to make themselves feel better about their own lives.

There were some miserable sods in Robson's time as well. Probably the same when Ramsay was manager, although that was before my time.

None of that remotely justifies or excuses the stick that Hirst is getting at the moment.

He may have put in a good shift in terms of effort but it wasn't an effective one, he is really struggling at the moment. He's never been prolific but if he's also not creating and bringing his teammates into the game he's not offering a lot.

For clarity I'd never boo, sarcastically cheer a player but he's having a poor season so far, hopefully that will change.
