If you've read anything off this board this week you fully know that the fundamental issue is with how the club was used and the lying.

Yes, if Ashton had spent the whole week in silence on the matter, only occasionally popping his head over the parapet to scream 'FAKE NEWS'.

Surely that’s the point? There are people with all sorts of views on political parties it’s just they don’t just shout about it and get outraged because that’s their view and claim to act for the majority!Im sure not all the staff at PR were upset and the same with the fan base.

He has damaged the reputation, brand and values of the club, including implicating our sponsors by association.
Zero contrition and a non-appology.

He tries ro spin the 'we' and shared togetherness, when by his actions he is not demonstrating that.

Ipswich Town is for everyone.
It is not within his gift to use for his own edification or tilt it towards sections of society.

He needs to go to put this to bed.

Jesus christ.

For the umpteeth time it's not about f'ing reform. It's about platforming a political party, *any* political party, denying it, lying about it and gaslighting the fans, all whilst claiming to be 'apolitical'

Sure, carry on with the "whataboutery" if you want, serves no purpose.

We all, as fans, have been taken for absolute mugs. You may be ok with that. I am not.

There are those on the right who will go "yeah, but, what about Starmer, what about the Greens".

There are those on the left who will scream to high heaven "Farage is a Nazi!!".

None of these are the point (and neither side really do any service to the real issue)

OUR CLUB IS NOT A POLITICAL MOUTHPIECE

WE ARE NOT HERE TO HAVE OUR MONEY TAKEN OFF US AND BE LIED TO.

REPEATEDLY.

You've missed the point with Marlon Harewood levels of inaccuracy.

Monday - "We had no idea Reform were coming. They duped us under a fake booking, and we had no involvement with their visit. Any shirts used in their footage were bought and paid for by Reform UK."

That would have been fine.

It's the point at which it then becomes apparent that Ashton is lying through his back teeth, gets caught in said lie, doubles down on said lie, and refuses to engage with the media, followed by publishing a non-apology in the middle of an England match; a timing all but guaranteed to be a 'bury bad news' decision.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Yeah, but you'd not be as vocal if it was Polanski, would you? eh?

Pretty relentless whataboutery all week, from all the people who would be fooking livid if it actually had been Polanski. Which is exactly the point, that the club shouldn't platform ANY political party, because it is nailed on to piss off a decent chuck of the support and cause friction.

no the point is we're dealing with what's actually happened not with hypotheticals

if the club had hosted, eg Polanski, no that would not be okay either for reasons of political neutrality

but that reason is only one aspect of what has become a slew of reasons that this whole episode and its cover-ups absolutely stinks

and yes I have it on good word that many staff at ITFC are deeply upset by this and have lodged official complaints with HR

genuinely hope that has cleared it up for you a bit

The reaction on this site to the Farage episode has been bizarre. I no longer trust the integrity of this site. I hardly recognise any posters.

Polanski, or any other party, would not have done this. It's a straw man arguement.

This was not, in the first instance, a normal political visit. No touring of the community programme, no shared pedestal, no press cameras. Just a cheap pr video leveraging the club followed up by online jokes about being right wing.

The whole "what about if it was..." is really dim, nobody else would have done what happend in any realistic situation.

Just because I have not posted for a while doesn’t make me “ new” and that’s precisely that attitude that stinks! Personally I don’t think any politician should get special treatment at any club etc ,are you going to call out Starmer for free tkts at Arsenal? They are all at it!
Ashton has apologised so what’s next accept it or continue and hound him out of the club?

Honest to God, I hate just C+Ping a post (that I don't particularly like, as I was pretty pissed off at the time)

But just re-iterating the same point, in different ways, to people who are, most likely, being deliberately obtuse is the way to madness. The attempt to re-frame this as "omg, the woke snowflakes don't like that someone had lunch with a politician they do not like" is transparent at best, and most likely deliberately divisive.

Everything has to be culture wars and tribal for some people. What a world we live in.

The one positive (and, oh my, am I clutching here) is seeing people who spend most of the time crossing swords on pretty much every other issue becoming fairly aligned on this particular one.

I may have to do an update that includes the absolute limp-wristed "apology" we have been fobbed off with too.

Ashton out

so why did all the wailing start, and all the toys leave the pram, before anyone had any evidence that the club's first statement was incomplete. people on here had gone into full flounce even before the first atlantic piece.

the "it's only because he lied line" was a relatively late arrival at the party.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

I’m not speaking for anyone else and I’ve tried on the whole to keep my own views on this apolitical (just like the club eh)

But for me the problem with this was never about lunch with Farage it was about Ashton seemingly giving the club’s endorsement to Reform by allowing it to be used in promotional material.

If the same had been done with any other party it would have been divisive but the thing that I think is fair to acknowledge with Reform is that while it has achieved considerable popularity and potentially could form the next government etc, it is a party with a leader that is also strongly opposed and even hated by a large section of society.

ITFC should be a unifying force in the community and cannot afford to be associated with enabling division.

Because it was mind blowingly obvious that first 'statement' or whatever it was to Phil was a lie.

'no official involvement'

A more obvious lie you'd struggle to find.
