FIFA tried to argue that long hydration breaks are needed for player safety, yet fans could not bring in water with them to drink at all. Funny enough, both of those positions earned money (advertising breaks and selling water). [Post edited 14 Jun 22:51]

Yeah as I said in the other thread surely they need to set a temperature/humidity level pre tournament, that’d be in the interests in player safety. Miami is outside and could be brutal. KC, Philly and NY all outside as well as the Mexican stadiums could be bad in the afternoon games. Dallas, Houston, Atlanta etc will all be perfect temps to play in. Theres’s obviously a money to be made. McKenna used to love the 20 minute Chaplin sit down to talk tactics so some coaches have found means to do it an advantage or to break up and slow down games. | Changing the game to quarters on 08:17 - Jun 15 with 1012 views | flykickingbybgunn | It has clearly nothing to do with player care. In the previous World Cup in America initially the American TV companies wanted 4 quarters so that they could get more adverts into the programme. That was resisted at the time. But clearly the money grabbing FIFA has allowed it using "player safety" as an excuse.

You do. To sell advertising in every game. Ref discretion as before, is perfect for welfare. This was always about money. I honestly think FIFA were less cynical when they were measurably corrupt. Sad times.

| Changing the game to quarters on 13:10 - Jun 15 with 507 views | Schmoke | Yeah but how are you going to reliably sell scheduled 3 minute advertising slots during a game without them? Classic poor people thinking going on here. | | | |
| Changing the game to quarters on 14:10 - Jun 15 with 398 views | grow_our_own | Drinks breaks might be needed in 30 degree heat, but certainly not air-conditioned stadia. Football is best played in cool temperatures. Only way to avoid is to host the WC in more southern hemisphere countries. Australia & Argentina have bid and been rejected, probably bc they don't fit with Infantino's preference to award it to dictators or wannabe dictators. | | | |

Seems every other nations out there having a blast. Stadium look mostly full as well. Got moan about something though haven't the English?

It’s clearly a commercial play (quite literally), which is annoying but the football and World Cup in general has been excellent so far. Everyone seems to be very much enjoying the hospitality and having a lot of fun which is good to see. Scotland fans took over Fenway yesterday as well.

It's looking like a good experience for those that are there which makes it more the pity for the many tens of thousands who have been needlessly priced out.
