Oldie's question on how to stream just one part of the Proms 17:16 - Jul 30 with 1097 viewsRyorry

Onto my sound system which doesn't have internet connectivity or Bluetooth, hive mind TWTD please?

It's a Myryad unit connected to massive old Linn speakers which I'm obviously keen to use. It has options for DAB or FM radio, Aux, Dig or M-port inputs, or CD (so I could buy one I guess if needs must).

Or I could stream to my TV which has internet connectivity & an added sound bar + bass unit - but would still rather hear via the Linns!

The way you've described your set up, I think you may be able to do this if you buy a Digital Audio Converter (DAC). It depends on the output from your TV. If it has digital or optical out, you could connect that via the DAC into your aux.
You would need some new cables too but a modest DAC is around £40. It won't be the greatest component in your system but should deliver what you need.

"Look, I don't wanna be the same as everybody else. That's why I'm a Mod, see?"

That's interesting, thanks, though I'd prefer something that didn't involve trailing a cable from the far end of one room through a door & up to the far end of a second room!

I wouldn't either!!!!
It looks like you need to explore some sort of wireless solution. That's not really my area of expertise.
Have you tried AI for a solution. It's one of the few good things to use it for!!!

Which part? When different sections of the audience bob up and down at different times? Wonderfully British yet also very cringey.

John Adams ‘Harmonium’, took up the whole second half on Sunday night 26/07, mesmerising and magnificent, but I wasn’t able to listen to the whole thing at the time -

+ Prog rock, film, jazz, world music - it’s expanded its horizons greatly in the past few years, and is much the better for it.

Have you got a laptop or computer that has a CD recordable drive?

Play on iPlayer, use software to capture the audio, burn to cd. If you are a copyright purist you won't want to do this. If you are a copyright respecter then you could destroy the cd afterwards.

Or a laptop or tablet with a stereo headphone socket?

Put it next to the stereo system. Plug from headphone socket to stereo aux in. Press play on iPlayer. No copyright issues.

I do, and it was just dawning on me too that my router & net connection via LAN mast are in same room as the s. system; + I have spare old laptop which is still usable (only abandoned it to upgrade & cos letters on keyboard had gone).

Cheers!

I came here to say this. If I was ever going to turn into a sociopathic murderer, it’s that bit that would do it. Cringe isn’t the half of it!

What are you trying to play from to your linn speakers ? What source ? You can get wireless blu tooth adapters - cheap as anything nowadays as blu tooth has its limits - but you plug one end into the source - likely headphone jack of equivalent and the other end to the amps rca

The source is the BBC Sounds app - want to be able to re-listen to one lengthy piece from last Sunday night's Prom concert.

ArnieMoorhen has suggested a solution which I think would work for me (headphones cable from laptop to amp's input) but I'll certainly look at yours too, to see if it might deliver better quality or function with wider potential, thanks 👍

If you're going with a laptop - or even a phone option, I'd recommend getting a USB DAC rather than using the one that powers the headphone socket in your device...

something like https://www.whathifi.com/hi-fi

will provide a much better source quality to your hifi... plug the output in to the aux input...

That’s absolutely brilliant, many thanks - a sort of beautiful hybrid of WhosBlue’s and ArnieMoorhen’s. Particularly appreciate the link too 👍

One more idea.... I use a chromecast audio... which is made by google, connects to the wifi, and then can just cast from your phone any audio stream to it.... it works really well. They are discontinued now, but there's a few on ebay.

you could airplay it....

I'd recomment you upgrade your speakers to these

They're available in Bury St Edmunds, so if you send me the money I'll deal with it for you.

Thanks, had bought DAC & set of cables for both iPhone & old Mac Airbook (which has A ports, so different to your link but also seems top qual) just before you posted, so will see how I get on with those first.

Maybe as Chromecasts are no longer produced, might be worth buying as backup now for selling on if not needed, but some reviews suggest set-up is complicated? and I'm no techie ...

Not even a subtle try that 😂

And upgrade? lol - my Linns cost £500 2nd-hand back in the 1980s & are now apparently worth over £5K
