There's nothing wrong with the tech at the ground. It's all operator error. It all works perfectly smoothy if you come prepared, and - if you're unfamiliar with the process - had a trial run before arriving at the ground. It's fundamentally the same as having a payment card in your digital wallet, so people who are 'unsure' should just load up one of their debit/credit cards on their phone, and go make a payment with it. You'll then just sail through the turnstiles. It's not even as if people haven't had the chance to try it out - some games towards the end of last season were available as eTickets, including the Women's game at PR, and the 2 pre-season games at PR. A lot of the problems (well based purely on those I've spoken with) is ITFC for some strange reason have assumed and restricted Apple phones to Safari only. So if you don't use Safari the download fails. Why anyone would stick with Safari is beyond me, but anyway ITFC have restricted it to Safari. Not sure why ITFC have restricted it so much, ie. Why won't they allow people to download to Samsung wallet, why have they restricted it to Safari on Apple phones. I guess its because our American owners only want us to use American apps. I'm sure if still part of the EU it might be looked at, haven't the EU fined orgs for restricting things to only certain companies - or was that Google for only offering Google apps?

They weren't the same though. The e-tickets before were scannable QR codes. I know the NFC ones can cause a problem. We just transitted the Paris Metro, and although we had downloaded the tickets onto our phones I had neglected to tell Mrs M that the phone has to be face up on the scanner. Couldn't figure why she couldn't get through, when I'd disappeared into the distance ......🤭

Why won't they allow people to download to Samsung wallet..." This is not unusual. Samsung Wallet is poorly supported in the UK. Even many of the major banks don't support it for payment cards e.g. Barclays, Natwest, etc when I last checked. It's a minority digital wallet in the UK. "...why have they restricted it to Safari on Apple phones" This is not a decision ITFC have made. Apple don't make many of the deeply integrated APIs available to other browsers, so Safari will often be able to do things other browsers can't. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It was very late in the season, and only home games. For the latter it would have had to be the team we were visiting that did NFC tickets, and that's still very rare in the Championship.

You can definitely add Barclay's debit card to a Samsung wallet.

Some of the problems arise from the consolidation to a single sign on, my account shows no season tickets, no linked accounts, same issue has affected a couple of others I know of, I’ve emailed the club (Friday) and beyond an acknowledgement I’ve heard nothing, so that’s why people feel the need to call.
| Queue predictions for Sunderland on 14:57 - Aug 5 with 1676 views | SitfcB | The trouble with Cobbold and SBR the scanners aren’t as simple to get to as most turnstiles around the country, they’re in the window gap, and the operator still tries to grab your phone and do it for you, on the new turnstiles in SAR and West Stand they’re more modern and you scan before you enter - this will cause delays IMO. They need to update all of the turnstiles, guess they will eventually in SBR and obviously will when the new Cobbold is built. | |

I very much doubt the owners give a flying fk what app or browser people use.

I will say 95% of people I know here have an iPhone and therefore iOS, whereas UK seems quite android heavy comparatively. Same with iMessage, and WhatsApp seems to be just used exclusively everywhere else. I doubt our owners were anything to do with the rollout though!

You'd be surprised. US market share is ~60:40 in favour of iphone, whereas its 54:46 in favour of iphone in the UK Go farther afield and it tips way towards Android, especially in China, India, Korea, etc

You're right - it seems it was recently added; I'd not looked for a while (my only real interest is 'supporting' my father-in-law with his Galaxy). It sort of illustrates the point though that one of the UK's biggest banks was very slow to add Samsung Pay, whereas everything supports Apple and Google wallets and has since they launched years ago. It's even less of a priority for smaller organisations, since the easy workaround is to install Google wallet on your Samsung. Samsung Pay hasn't been well supported and many vendors therefore don't provide etickets/epasses.
| Queue predictions for Sunderland on 18:12 - Aug 5 with 1010 views | DJR | Maybe the best thing to do is to assume that everyone will get to the ground very early, and roll up at 2.50 when all the queues have gone. People tended to get to the Premier League games earlier anyway when we were last there, presumably because of the excitement. Certainly the streets were deserted for the Liverpool game when we left the pub at our usual time and there were no queues at all at outside the ground at that time. [Post edited 5 Aug 18:14]

I've got apps to get into cricket grounds, for trains, flights and various concert venues which download to my Apple wallet with no problems at all. Can I get my ST to download ? Can I chuff. Safari. Who uses Safari ?

Fair enough but this is just a season ticket, not a payment card, the club should be allowing the usage of all wallets. As an FYI a lot of UK credit cards still don't work on Apple or Google and that relates to security issues with the apps in how security verification is undertaken.
