May I share something with you 20:14 - Jul 11 with 12082 viewsgtsb1966

Do you remember the mental illness thread and when I said how close I'd become to cracking up because my daughter was killing herself with heroin. Well, for the months after that things got worse and she was on dangerous doses and mixing drugs. Injecting into her neck as her arms were shot. That's how bad it was. Basically I gave up all hope and even had money put aside to give her a decent funeral when the inevitable happened. Just as I thought things couldn't get worse I discovered she was pregnant. Normally a father would be devastated to find that his daughter was pregnant and the father of the baby was nowhere to be seen but not me now thank god. With the prospect of having her baby taken away she has now been clean for a while and the doctors, social workers and drug councillors are satisfied she can keep her baby as the change has been wonderful. Not the best way to become a grandad some might say but for me it is a life saver hopefully. The reason I'm posting this is to say to anybody who has hit rock bottom and thinks life can't get better it can. It really can. Don't give up. I had but I'm glad to be proven wrong.....hopefully. If you're down then keep fighting. Life will change for the good eventually.

Blimey. I wish her, and you as you support her, all the best - and hope that when she finds it tough going with the baby, that she'll lean on the right kind of help.

Great that she's managed to clean herself up with responsibility.

Keep us posted, and remember, we're here as a soundboard or support in any way we can if you need it.

Thank you. Luckily she has a loving mum in Ipswich and me in Sudbury so can have support 24/7

Thanks. After a few years you start to build up a resistance and expect the inevitable with a sigh. Harsh but true especially if you've exhausted every avenue. It was her mum and sister I felt for.

That's very good news, hopefully the start of a full recovery for her.

As Hoppy said keep us informed, when's the baby due?

P.S. From your posts on here, you're clearly going to make an excellent Grandad.

I hope you and your family can continue to move forward and find new leases of positivity. It's never easy when you don't know how things are going to improve. You're right to say never give up. All the best.

Life threw crap at our family but unfortunately it was my daughters decision to do what she did. It is so simple to get hooked though and then go on the downward spiral. Her ex boyfriend was stabbed to death. Next night she is drunk and upset and some parasite offers her a fag to ' make her feel better'. The rest is history.

From the few posts you have referred to this situation it sounds like you have been very supportive. Which can only have helped her back on the right path.

Even rehab doesn't matter if they don't want to do it. I paid 5 grand for rehab but she did a bunk after one week and I lost the lot. P.s...5 grand was for a month. It isn't cheap.
