He might be thinking the defence may look marginally better if the ball doesn't come straight back every time it's cleared.
Worrying other teams offensively and the ball sticking a bit further up the pitch might do wonders for our defence.
Not saying I wouldn't like to see someone come in at the back mind. |  |

Because defending is not isolated to the defensive third. As it stands we have very little ability to hold up the ball and we are often giving away possession in advanced areas of the pitch, allowing for devastating breaks (hence why so many free kicks are being given.) Having a player who is 6 3 in both boxes is surely a big scalp for us too, as we do miss having the ability to put away a cheeky header from a corner now, especially with Tommy gone.
In short Lambert spoke early about a squad being unbalanced, and his recruiting would be focussing on trying to balance a squad. When you have an unbalanced squad, mistakes made anywhere on the pitch can and often do lead to goals conceded. [Post edited 8 Jan 2019 20:45]

We were conceding a lot from set pieces, so some extra height may help there and let's be honest our current attack couldn't score on a weekend in Weston super mare laden with bundles of fifties. | |

He did say something along those lines a couple of weeks ago, about the defence being under more pressure because the ball doesn't stick at the other end. Think he does have a point, our defence has had to do a lot of defending despite us usually having had a lot of possession in most recent games. I beg to differ. If we had defenders who are comfortable with the ball, and not just hoooooofing it we don’t have so much need of abattering ram. Big strikers who can actually hold a ball up are few and far between at this level. | | | |
