For whom the bell trolls ... 14:11 - Dec 20 with 2155 viewsDarth_Koont

From the BBC:

Almost 50 MPs are calling for Big Ben to chime the moment that Britain leaves the European Union.

The Elizabeth Tower, where the Great Bell is situated, is currently being refurbished and only rings out on New Year's Eve and Remembrance Sunday.

But the MPs - led by the prominent Conservative eurosceptic Mark Francois - have signed a Commons motion, urging Parliament's authorities to allow an exception at 23.00 GMT on 31 January.

They say the move would "provide an appropriate national focus" for what they say is a "truly historic event".

Who would have guessed that Mark Francois would have been front and centre of this?

People actually went out to a polling station and put a cross in the box next to the name of Mark Francois.

That makes me despair for humanity.

Much more preferable to minting yet another 50p only to have to scrap it as the date is yet again changed.

His big majority may make leaving much more likely but he still has to get both extremes of his party to agree to his deal or no deal first.

If they want to bring the country back together they need to show a bit of humility and stop crowing about how they've 'won'. None of them can even articulate what is meant to be celebrated about 'winning' and us leaving the EU beyond some vague notion of 'getting are country back!!!!'.

It's Essex. I feel like Essex and Medway should really form a separate country called Little England.

The only down vote that I received from Pickles was when slagging off Francois.

For his constituents he successfully campaigned to have a Wetherspoons in Wickford:

I think a new 50p with Boris on the back making an L sign with his fingers against his forehead would be perfect.

It can't be a lot in the scheme of things of course, but just wondering. It won't be free.

It just seems to epitomise their care-free approach to spending on nonsense that's all.

Yet when actual people need real help there's no money, but we're all in it together.

If we can have it chime every time Boris lies, goes back on the manifesto or dumps on another group/woman he previously toadied up to.

The feckin thing will be going off like an old fashioned ambulance bell.

What lies behind the thought is the sheer ignorance of where the UK will be on Feb 1st.

Still in the customs union and single market with virtually nothing agreed

It will mean the UK having to use EU schedules for the next five years minimum, likewise accept EU standards on goods...... only this time with no say in their forming.

The residue of the £39bn will still have to be paid, and all trade disputes with the EU will still go through the ECJ.

There are umpteen other areas that the UK is going to take years to resolve - only this time with one tenth of the power they had before.

Brexiteers, - incredibly thick.

Yes, we are very thick. Imagine losing a national argument to a 17.4million army of thickos. The other side must be really, really thick.

That is the whole point.

There was no 'argument'. No exchange of reasoned thought just a blind faith by brexiteers who seemed unable or unwilling (still do) to engage with anything beyond a dogmatism that kept them ignorant.

There atre probably also 17.4m people who believe that if you blow yourself up along with others you will go to some heaven where all manner of wondrous stuff be be given to you. That they stick to this stupidity does not afford them some intellectual high ground either.

What argument?

I have literally seen time and again list after list of blatant lies and bullsh1t posted and when someone points out the facts the response is "yawn, not this again".

Facts are just noise to the idiots. That's how it works.

The truth is, the ill-informed, the uneducated, have revelled in their chance to somehow 'get even'. The brighter amongst them are happy to patronise and allow them to make fools of themselves. They are their fodder; draw them in - pretend to be onside.

They're too stupid, too preoccupied with feeling on some level with those they feel intimidated by that they couldn't give a toss about reasoning or facts.

There's your truth.
