I think there is a lot in the "Don't change a winning team" mentality.
If a player has got a knock or needs a rest then he should replace like for like.
I have never liked seeing players playing out of position as they tend to drift into their natural position leaving gaps. I prefer a 2nd-rate natural left-back to a left-sided quality midfielder playing left-back for that reason. |  |
