Anyone's companies limiting travel and in-person meetings (n/t) on 16:26 - Mar 4 with 5609 views | monytowbray | The company I'm contracting for ATM sent out a generic NHS advice email saying if you've been in contact with a potentially infected person or show symptoms of flu stay home for two weeks. Other than that, business as usual. Still can't figure out if it's a big deal or not yet. I don't remember this level of panic over swine and bird flu, but I also think social media may be ramping up the fear on these things now. [Post edited 4 Mar 2020 16:28]

I think the threat is more to do with the potential impact on health and social care services than the actual virus itself. In that if there are lots of cases where people require treatment in a short space of time, it will overwhelm our services. Hence the sensible need to flatten out cases as opposed to it spiking. If we are overwhelmed then people will suffer and die but this is likely to be things like being dying from heart attacks, strokes and other issues that might normally be resolved and cared for but will be missed if we are overwhelmed. So - I can see the logic from that perspective of being sensible about travel and meetings. Research and evidence suggests that the virus isn't overtly deadly.

Good thing we've got that extra £350m a week for the NHS then I guess! Earlier someone said OMG 85 PEOPLE IN THE UK HAVE IT NOW as if that's bad. It's still 0.0001% of the population. [Post edited 4 Mar 2020 16:40]

Reading earlier that it's 34x more potent than your standard flu bug. This really is bad news for us blokes.

Yep, although you need to use the iceberg analogy, in that we 'know of' 85 cases, there will be many, many more that have it but we are not aware of them, yet, or even ever will be. That being said - it's still extremely small numbers.

Same. Never seen the office so busy. Usually 1/3 of people are elsewhere in the world.
