The Accrington chairman wants to pause the season. 08:31 - Mar 9 with 5113 viewsGeoffSentence

Worried about fans transmitting corona at games but also worried about the loss of income from the alternative of playing behind closed doors.

Very sensible... and probably inevitable. unlike schools football matches have a high number of at-risk potential victims who are being asked to sit and freeze for a couple of hours whilst mingling with other carriers.

I think our players have clearly been affected since it's emergence in January.

Really all the fixtures since Christmas should be replayed.

He mentioned this the other day as well.... if Coronavirus means clubs having to play several home games being played behind closed doors, this could send a significant number of clubs to the wall, due to loss of budgeted income and also refunds to ST holders.

Yes, it would a lot of clubs are teetering on the edge as it is, loss of income would from playing behind closed doors would finish a few off.

A pause does seem like a sensible approach as government strategy has now moved to delaying the spread, a pause would probably help with that.

You'd have to be a bit of a rubbish fan to demand back money for your season ticket which might send the club out of business due to something totally outside of the club's control.

Really? I wouldn't blame anyone for getting their money back. We still have a few home games to go which is a substantial amount of money.
Presumably the games would be on Ifollow and people would want to watch that way, why should they pay twice?

I'm not sure lower league clubs can survive without the revenue from home games. For Premier League sides they can manage due to the huge monies they make from TV and other outlets. For lower league clubs, like ourselves, it's a completely different stratosphere. I'm quite interested about how this pans out, if this goes on longer than anticipated what would happen regarding relegation and promotion issues throughout the leagues?

Not what was said though. The point was with regards to the club's going out of business.

If they aren't on the edge then of course refund or give free iFollow.

It's literally not the club's fault though.

In the event of the season being finished with games in empty stadiums (with players having no physical contact?) it could be seen as equable for the Premier League to share some its television income with the lower leagues. Wouldn't that be wonderful? And totally unlikely...

With perhaps one or two exceptions, even the profitable Prem clubs do not have that much of a margin they can financially afford to be generous. Unless, perhaps, players on £30k to £100k+ per week were prepared to take a temporary pay cut.

There was enough Town fans demanding a refund for the Bury game that didn't happen to suggest the rubbish fans are indeed out there.

Particularly when clubs will also be short of money after losing anticipated income.
I think the current season should be cancelled & expunged from the records, but that's for different reasons.

I don't think the Euros is likely to effect the sort of clubs that would go out of business with a loss of revenue.

Perhaps allow the big boys full of internationals to crack on behind closed doors and allow the smaller clubs to pause their seasons.

We are currently heading for Liverpool to win the Premier League for the first time ever and first top flight title in 30 years, Leeds returning after 16 years and Coventry winning their first league title (ever? Or is it just in about 70 years) and the chances are that none of their fans will get to see it and presumably there won't be a civil reception either.

Bigger things that football, but you must be gutted to potentially miss something so important to you as a fan.

I don't think there is any chance of Liverpool getting a civil reception even if the season is not cancelled, it's going to be well scally...

Even a pause would cause issues- the players would need paying- banks and creditors will want paying
