Therefore, in my view, he will not be sacked before the end of the season. If there were a time to do it, to try to preserve a sliver of a chance at the playoffs, it has to happen now.

ME is clearly gambling on the impact of the players returning from injury.

I really fear for the club next season in League 1 - the downward spiral continues!

We have zero chance of making the play offs now so I guess the thinking is to wait until it's confirmed as we can sack him more cheaply then.

Unless people start accusing him of kiddly fiddling at away matches and he decides to walk.

surely if we as fans have learn't anything while M Evans has owned the club it is that changing manager changes nothing there must be other reasons why this club is in such a poor situation

Changing from Jewell to McCarthy meant that we went from bottom of the Championship to the play offs in a little over 18 months. The issue is that, McCarthy aside, Evans has made really poor managerial appointments.

And changing from McCarthy to Hurst meant we went from the top half of the Championship to the bottom and ultimately onto League One

So really the only recent change which hasn’t changed anything was appointing Lambert...

It's impossible to say.

Certainly, Magilton did ok, Keane was awful, Jewell ineffective, McCarthy good at times but very, very dull football, Hurst a disaster and Lambert has proven to be a false dawn.

The one constant through all of them has been Marcus Evans. Without his money, we would have gone bust and even liquidated. There's something about the set-up which is not working, query whether this is something that would be any different with a new manager.

What I do know is that the players are bereft of confidence, the support is restless and the forecast is very grim.

So out of that lot listed then Magic was Towns best manager . Shame Evans dumped him via a bloody phone call then.

Magilton was nowhere near as good as McCarthy as a manager, let's be real.

Magilton stands head and shoulders above Keane, Jewell, Hurst and Lambert, but head and shoulders below Mick. Interesting that our two most competent managers of the Evans era were both hounded out by fans and/or local press as well.

It wasn't always dull under McCarthy. BUt from the second half of the play-off season onwards it became progressively more so.

Managers get hounded out for 2 different causes:

1) Frustration
2) Despair

Jim and Mick came under cause 1 because they hit glass ceilings. Jim’s was more grievous because he had been financially backed for the top 6 or better. Mick just got sucked into the ennui of Evans’s approach and failure to capitalise when we were in a good position. He then made a rod for his back by adopting a seige mentality. But it’s hard to recapture the goodwill of crowds once things go stale.

The other managers have been more or less firefighting poor results/performances since they came in. Some get irate and want them out, others just become depressed and bide the time until the cut off takes place.

eady on old fellow.

Dangerous talk could lead to some on here thinking there might be something more needed doing than appoint Warnock etc - or not as thinking over bleating pretty much always favours the latter

as pretty much whatever has been achieved, set in motion by Lambert/Evans will doubtlessly have to be scrapped and started again

which doesn't seem to concern those for whom the knee jerking is the most they can put into the debate

Unless there is a spectacular end to this season, which is unlikely, then apathy will have returned and we will be back to where we were when PL arrived except in a division lower.

Of course if we were to win our last eight league games and the three playoff games...

Equally we don’t want to make the same mistake as Hurst. Not only the wrong appointment, he arrived too late. Need the new man to see the final few games. Opportunity to see all the players then start the clear out.

The other point to consider is season ticket sales. A very tough sell this year!

@ jas0999 absolutely spot on! Get the new man in now and sell some season tickets. Having lambert still here is like havin farted 10 minutes ago and it's still hanging in the air.

That, or we just have some very thick supporters.

No, it’s not a question of being thick, just expectations rise. Magilton and McCarthy both showed they could do good things here and then they stopped doing them. In Jim’s case, the mistakes he made without money, were repeated with money and in those early years of Evans’s time, it seemed like it just needed someone who could get another 5/10% out of the squad and add in the missing players to get us from top 10 to top 6 or better. Deep down, Keane knows that he blew it badly.

As for Mick, I’d have happily kept him and had Evans run out of town once it became evident that in January 2016, he was going to repeat the quiet January of 2015. Team Mick up with an owner who has a bit of dynamism and drive and we’d have been regularly challenging for the top 6. Instead we had one who promoted drift and indifference. It overwhelmed the team and management, caused the supporters to nearly gouge their eyes out with frustration, and once it was paired with managers who made errors, it killed the club.
