what were they doing there for so long? on 10:42 - Apr 16 with 914 views | StokieBlue | "Chandni Ladwa, 37, arrived back in Leicester from the Gujarat region on Monday. She said she flew out in early March before it was clear how serious the situation would become and when the FCO still said travel to India was ok." Might be true with regards to FCO but rather strange to say she didn't understand how serious it was going to be. Things were getting bad in Italy, Iran and Spain by then. Naive to think it wouldn't reach other countries and that she might get stuck. SB

Pretty sure there were 'come home now' warnings later in march too. I wonder how much its costing to get these bods home? What a waste of precious resources.

what were they doing there for so long? on 11:11 - Apr 16 with 849 views | Basuco | An ex-workmate was stuck in Goa recently, all flights in and out were grounded, so if that was the case how can the FCO get round that?
what were they doing there for so long? on 11:16 - Apr 16 with 828 views | C_HealyIsAPleasure | Instinctively I’m inclined to agree however it’s not as straightforward as just getting home - as soon as FCO advice was in place and flights were being cancelled the cost of the remaining seats to get home would have been going through the roof. Many simply wouldn’t have been able to spend thousands on a flight at the drop of the hat Whether they should have pre-empted it as it spread elsewhere is perhaps a different question, but then with the FCO saying it was ok and no prospect of getting costs back elsewhere if they cancelled/curtailed it’s not really a surprise that they didn’t

what were they doing there for so long? on 11:17 - Apr 16 with 831 views | itfcjoe | My neighbours went out on December 31st for 3 months, but came back two weeks early (at their expense for new flights) when they say things starting to kick off like this. Was a trip of a lifetime, and had they not been able to afford to come back early, or able to then they'd have been stuck out there like these people so can see how it is done. Often for insurance reasons, you have to jump through the hoops put in fornt of you or get left with a big bill

But the person interviewed and complaining went out in early March so it's totally different to the scenario you've portrayed. It's a bit rich of her to claim she didn't expect it to be so bad. Certainly difficult for some people though as you have outlined. SB [Post edited 16 Apr 2020 11:31]

what were they doing there for so long? on 12:23 - Apr 16 with 724 views | monytowbray | Got a friend stranded in NZ and she’s having no luck. And she’s part of a group of others in the same boat that are running low on life saving medication. I get there are two sides to these situations with another government involved though. NZ’s government for all the stuff they got right have completely f*cked other nationals who were visiting and are now stranded.

"It's shambolic," he said." What did he expect, doorstep service? If you expect to be flown home at public expense, then surely you should expect to at least have a little personal inconvenience.
