55,000 excess deaths in 2020 in UK now, according to ONS. 14:01 - May 19 with 1795 views | Dubtractor | Though at least, looking at the chart on this link, it does clearly look like the trend is heading in the right direction. One can only assume that the 5g has now been turned off? In all seriousness, lets all hope that this is a sustained trend. https://i.guim.co.uk/img/media/f978ea2f06bdd8ddb8d32195455ba514a157752a/0_0_1476 [Post edited 19 May 2020 14:16]

There will undoubtedly still be excess deaths as it's not perfectly containable especially coming out of lockdown. But at least if the excess deaths settle at a lowish rate through June and July then it becomes much more manageable. On a related note, it's good to have glimmers of hope from vaccine tests but realistically we need to be looking far more long-term than the most optimistic predictions. And accepting that we are living with Coronavirus for a lot longer, probably even after we develop a vaccine if flu is anything to go by.

Sadly the initial results of the promising Oxford vaccine show that it doesn't stop the spread. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/doubts-oxford-vacc https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/coronavirus-oxford-vaccine-may-still-leave-pe

Yeah, I saw that. To be honest, I think that news about 30 million vaccinations available in September was ridiculously premature. I know it was a hope rather than a promise but it felt as if it minimised the concern about Coronavirus just when we need to be getting used to it and dealing with it over the long term.

Yes, it did seem optimistic.

It's the sort of things that gives science a bad name. It was ridiculously overblown claim.

55,000 excess deaths in 2020 in UK now, according to ONS. on 19:23 - May 19 with 1512 views | Oldsmoker | One headline I read said the "Death Count in the UK continues to drop" The first sentence under the headline said... The total number of deaths increased by 545... I know what they meant. 545 is a lower figure than yesterday but still, the understanding of simple words and phrases seems to have escaped some newspaper editors.

That Government statement in full. When I said September, I didn't mean September 2020.

...escaped you. 545 certainly isn't a lower figure than yesterday. Just saying.

Darnit. So its all nonsense. I will take solace in the fact that yesterdays figure was lower than 545 and say "So, that's alright then". Are we at that stage when it's just a number and forget that 545 represents actual people who are now dead? I sense some in the government are now at that stage.

Test for anti-bodies will be far more of a game changer. Studies in the US, not done by Trumpies administration, but by people like Berkley and UCLA, indicate that far more people may have had it then we currently think. Early days yet though.

It's dropped by going up by 545 and being higher than yesterday, keep up . The dumbing down continues. We'll all be grunting in monosyllables by 2050 at this rate. It's long only been a number, same with XXX sleeping on the streets each year, etc.

FFS they said 80% chance of success in humans and they haven't even got it past monkeys, AND they already knew that and tried to hide it! You just cannot believe anybody.
