Playford Road rumour 20:04 - Sep 3 with 3517 viewsDarth_Koont

I have it on good authority that the players have no confidence in the fans who were complaining about being midtable in the Championship.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Indeed. Don't see us performing well on a cold, wet February night in Accrington.

We need more plastic fans.

Meh. I think Jim set us off on this track unfortunately. He's by no means responsible for where subsequent managers took us but that expensive midfield muddle took years to sort out.

Maybe Jim knew what he was doing and needed more time but I certainly couldn't work it out.

The rot started with that last season of Micks. Relegation form for the last few months of his reign.

.... and still finished above Norwich and Leeds that year who’ve both since got promoted.

The "rot" was a mediocre season with good young players emerging and a valuable squad that could at least hold its own in the Championship.

Yeah, thank feck that's all behind us.

Yes, I often wonder how Leeds managed to get promoted with their expensive squad and £6m a year manager.

Thankfully Bryan Klug guided us to some stability.

Mr Hurst letting our Top 5 goal scorers go didn't help.

Seem to recall the majority of Waghorns goals were scored in the first half of the season. Then our terrible form kicked in under Mick.

If you discount the draw at Bolton, win at Sunderland, draw in Norfolk, win at Preston and win at Sheff W in five consecutive away games between late January and early March.

Apart from those games you might be right.

Klug took 4 points from a possible 12. Mick’s last 19 games yielded 21 points (W5, D6, L8) - Not spectacular form and rather skewed by 4 losses in his last 6 games, but I think Hull City would have killed for that run in the season just gone.

I know that you and others had given up on Mick by the end and felt the club was dying, but that was your emotions talking, it wasn’t born out by the results to anywhere near the extent that you or others like to suggest.

I was kidding a bit about Klug.

I have nothing against Mick, but it did think it was time to go, he was clearly unhappy.

We should also remember that we were in poor form when Mick left, and many other clubs would have taken the same action that we did.

Anyways it's history, and when it comes to history we have far better managers to remember.

He was yielding about a point a game, and latterly had 4 defeats and 2 draws in his last 6 matches.

Not great.

Certainly not in recent times we do not have better managers to remember but in history we do yes.

The two that preceded him and the two that have followed only emphasise how good MM was.

Not sure how you come to that conclusion because we WON his last game, despite the efforts of the North Stand.

Was thinking his last game was Brentford.

Was it Barnsley?

Fair enough, 4 defeats a draw and a win.

Interestingly the draw and the win came about in the 4 games he managed us after it was announced he was leaving.

We need to hope Lambert has inherited the gift of winning matches when his own situation appears hopeless.
