Wow. Genuinely the most insane thing I’ve ever seen. This man is the POTUS as if this moment and he’s literally refusing to leave the White House - claiming a win. Despite being voted out. In the most powerful and influential country in the world.

2020 is just bonkers. Never seen anything like that before.

'His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.'

Trump?

Well, maybe. It was actually written in a psychological profile of Hitler.

No, he had the millions of people before he got in as the figurehead

The reason he got the followers is solely due to unregulated media exposure

I do agree that his cultists don't give a crap about the Republican party. They care about him. They aren't going to automatically fall in behind whoever leads them next. There could be some serious infighting between various factions.

It does worry me that you're a few years behind us over here. But I don't know if you have such polarizing issues such as guns, abortion and religion to get you to quite the mess we are in.

Some of them are literally Republicans, i.e. anti-federation. Others are incel trolls. Basically a lot of people who would never normally vote

A lot of the people who have latched onto him are life's losers and this was their first ever taste of winning anything. That's why they've been riding high on the hog the last four years and that's why the possibility of losing that is so painful for them.

They're the political equivalent of a Man Utd fan from Jaywick.

Don't really agree. Trump wasn't a leading political figure before he ran for the Presidency.

What he did do was to tap into the ready-made constituency of headbangers - formerly known as the Tea Party - already associated with (and beyond) the right of the existing Republicans. He played to their views, so they loved him. He also had a second strand, of tax cuts for the rich, which brought on board a load of wealthy donors (something Hitler also did).

Whoever holds the Republican candidature is guaranteed over two-fifths the votes in any US Presidential election. The only time the loser's share has fallen below 40% since 1980 whas when Bush Senior was beaten by Clinton, after 12 years of Rep rule and with Ross Perot taking nearly 19% of the vote.

Aye. He played it like the TV show, Muppet wrangler, circus ring leader, media master that he is,

I don't know if his followers loyalty will extend to the party when he's gone. It's a cult of personality not party.

For example, I can't see them falling into line behind Pence.

To Guthrums previous post this stance is his way of saving face and paving the way for his exit. It was everyones fault but me.

He'll happily leave the political mess with his staunch followers waving pitchforks whilst he swings a golf club in Florida.

Certainly not if the party pivots in a more moderate (or more boring) direction.

A lot of that depend upon whether Trump tries to remain a figurehead, with a view to running again in 2024, or if other forces take over. If it turns out they've only just lost this time, then there may be pressure to persist with the Trumpist approach. The free-marketeers and government reducers may like the idea of having a circus to distract from their deregulatory plans.

All I'm saying is 14 million people were behind him before he became the official figurehead of the party - they made him the figurehead. Maybe those 14 million voters were originally Tea Party followers, though I doubt it

Unlike the BBC, a bunch of the US Networks pulled away citing it was dangerous propaganda

"Federal judge denies Trump motion to stop counting votes in Philadelphia
A federal judge has denied the Trump campaign’s motion to stop ballot counting in Philadelphia. This is the third campaign legal challenge to the vote count that has been dismissed.

The president’s chances of winning reelection appear to be shrinking as states continue to count ballots. His increasingly desperate campaign has launched a series of lawsuits that are unlikely to have any bearing on the election results, but have served as a means to sow doubt in the legitimacy of the whole elections system."

Another one bites the dust...
