For the keen astronomers out there 09:04 - Dec 12 with 2817 viewsStokieBlue

The 21st December is a big night for those of us who like to take a gander at the stars. It will be a "Great Conjunction" of Saturn and Jupiter, something which hasn't happened in 400 years. They will be the closest they have been in the sky since 1623.

What this actually means that if you have good viewing conditions you'll be able to see Jupiter, it's moons and Saturn in the same view in your telescope:

Should be amazing, weather permitting.

It would be even better if we could see Uranus too.

Sorry not sorry.

I'm guessing, if its a bit cloudy, waiting for the next time isn't exactly an option?

Hmm, there seems to be a lot of black around those stars. I wonder why that would be.

I was up the road in Cardiff from memory. My mate headed down there and got lucky with the clouds.

Had 90% I think where I was - so I just got the impact on my eyes of looking at it, along with half the adult population who never followed the guidance :-)

Next one is Nov 2040 but it won't be as close as this one.

Good one in 7541 if you're still about - triple conjunction.

Whenever viewing the planets is mentioned, I always think of the late great Kenny Everett’s Captain Kremmen sketch - ‘look Carla, there’s Uranus!’. ‘Don’t be personal, we’ve only just met’

For those interested a little bump.

Monday night, just after it gets dark in the SW sky. They will be setting so probably not a long window to view them if the weather is OK.

I believe you should be able to see it without a ginger cricketer along side.

That's pleased me.

Apparently appearance fees can be pretty high.
