Plus the players have never seen their own contracts. They have their people do that.

Wouldn’t these be for the youth players and triallists they have, the rest of the squad would already be contracted.
Derby looking in even more trouble? on 12:59 - Aug 5 with 1843 views | ElderGrizzly | They're only allowed to sign 6 players under the embargo and those can only be free transfers or loans with a reported maximum salary of £8k a week.
Derby looking in even more trouble? on 13:44 - Aug 5 with 1649 views | wkj | Mel Morris would surely fail the fitness test for football ownership now - surely he has to be banned from the sport ASAP. I know derby are technically in a better spot than we are, but it goes to show that bloating your squad and throwing money around has tremendous risks.

Of course it can. A contract is simply a statement that you either agreed or disagree to adhere to and sign or not sign.

Many companies that are bust are sold for a token £1 as there has to be an exchange to create a contract.

It is clearly made up by a "journalist" with a very poor reputation. If a player did receive such a contract, I am sure their agent would advise them what value to fill in before signing. Since Derby are limited to £8K contracts by the authorities, I would imagine that would be the figure.

Derby looking in even more trouble? on 15:15 - Aug 5 with 1306 views | GeoffSentence | It is a shame what is happening at Derby. They were, with us and Forest, in a handful of unfashionable clubs that made football interesting in the 70s and 80s

This is a contract of employment but I get where you are coming from. A contract between you and I could read "will you come over every Saturday to wash my car at 09:00" You sign it or you don't. It does not mention any form of payment however it would be still be classed as a contract. Of course, you would be foolish to sign, just as the players would. My car is a disgrace right now.

That's not a contract in the slightest. Regardless of the nature (sale, employment, whatever) there has to be valuable consideration in order for the contract to be valid. (Thomas v Thomas) (1842) 2 QB 851 The example you have given does not provide any consideration (even the oft-used peppercorn would suffice) and therefore no contract is created.
