Slightly disappointed 13:18 - Aug 13 with 2065 views | monty_radio | P.C. “One of the things I don’t like is how every game gets scrutinised, the result gets scrutinised and the manager gets scrutinised. “I don’t look into football like that, I just keep working hard on the training ground and the results and the performances will take care of themselves.” I know that managers like to keep control of as many factors as they can, and that Cook would not be the only one to express dissatisfaction with questions such as "When will player X be fit?" Or: do you think that X is better suited to a 4-4-2? etc, etc. But that putting of distance between any club and what the avid fan is doing all the time, such as arguing on here about the best 11 that could be fielded next Saturday is a defensiveness that I personally don't find endearing. If there's been a long period of slump and angst, then fine that a manager goes on the defensive, but it's not an attractive all-purpose stance to want to control the type of question that can be deemed answerable.

If it's only that, then fine. But saying, as was reported, that he doesn't get involved in those kinds of opinions and relating that he sends out others for interviews sounds more of a settled opinion than that.

If you continue you over analyse over analysis, do you at some point return to no analysis?

You might want to add "I think my future performance is more important. If we can look at my motivation for that, I am sure we will get it right." Your next comment might also be "what do you mean my future performance will be elsewhere?", though.

It's been a football truism for as long as I've lived, that in football you are only ever as good as your last result. Also a truism it's only the managers feeling the heat that complain about it. But there you go we seem to have been blessed by a succession of managers of late, despite the years of experience in the game among them, who really dont like being questioned in press conferences much.

Absolute nonsense. It's something fans say thinking they're clever. If Palace beat Chelsea clearly the manager is crap. Forget the Champions League win. I realise i'm taking it to a bit of an extreme but my point stands.

What if the manager is Paul Lambert? [Post edited 13 Aug 2021 15:23]

Take the "rabidly" and the "over" out of what you say and it's the everyday fare of any football fansite, as your own regular contributions testify. [Post edited 13 Aug 2021 15:54]

So, if we change the context of it, it becomes something completely different?

We were also warned he would be exactly like this by fans of his previous clubs. He's not engaged with the media and tries to keep people grounded (like a lot of managers). I don't disagree with the intention but I agree that there need to be some soundbites for fans to take away. That being said - PL had 6 soundbites on repeat. 'We'll see where it takes us' was one of the most irritating. Just pure groundless hope. Anyway, blue army, jeremiah brown etc etc

I think that's 'X' the OP mentions. OK it's a bit of a strange name, but then if that's good enough for Elon Musk's offspring, it's probably good enough for us.

No, it just becomes what the big majority of the responses of the threads had been when you made the comment i.e. generally lacking in rabid over-reaction. Look back and count them if you think it was otherwise.
