Took my grandson to Planet Blue the other day 18:10 - Nov 12 with 1425 viewsgtsb1966

Got him a couple of bits but in all seriousness from people who have done it what is the best age to start a kid watching football. I mean when they will sit there not wanting to go home or getting grumpy. He's four in two weeks .

Whenever I read something like this I'm reminded about the Newcastle fan ringing the club to enrol his new child in the Junior Magpies.

'Congratulations, sir. And are we talking about a little boy or a little girl?'

'I don't know. Only the head's out so far.'

I think I started my lad a bit too young… perhaps 4-5… the problem is it combined with the later Mick years… which (I know know) were very lacking in good football and excitement… kids are as interested in the crowd and spectacle… and we are getting that back!

Get him down there!!

I took my boy to his first game when he was five but I don't think he really appreciated it.

We got season tickets when he was seven and he was absolutely hooked. So I'd say that is the right age to get him watching football.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

My son was enrolled in the Junior Blues when he was just over 24 hours old.

At 40 he is now probably the oldest member of the Junior Blues.

yeah that feels about right. 7-8 certainly.
I actually think this is a good time to engage a brand new generation all will be devoid of the expectation of the Robson / Burley years and the absolute dourness of the last 20 years.

For me it all really depends on the atmosphere. I took both mine from 5-6 and I’d say they were quickly bored, but then low gates, boring football and limited atmosphere will do that. The chant they heard mostly was “boooo”.

Now fast forward to this season, my daughter is now hooked, on football generally, but absolutely Ipswich. Loves the atmosphere, loves the excitement on the pitch, and loves Ipswich. She came home tonight couldn’t stop talking about Pack Out PR.

My son, needs convincing still. He’s scarred by never seeing us beat those up there (he’s 13 now), but he’s keen and I think get him in a big crowd, big atmosphere, that’s 2 and 0 for new Town fans in this household.

I think 5 - 6 today, and the positive vibes, and we’ve a potential new wave of Town fans.

I am in my forties and I still regularly get grumpy and want to go home.

I would suggest around 8 weeks into the gestation period. Any sooner than that is a little early.

Started taking my nephew aged 6, Burley years and he loved it pretty much from the get go. Feel a little guily, all the rest of the family are West Ham fans, bet he hates me some days.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

My first game was 1974 when I was eight. Carlisle at home. Don't know what the crowd was but I thought it was massive. I was blown away.

Try one of the other seven dwarfs for a change.

That would be my advice.

7 years old I would suggest.
By then we will be or pushing to be a Premier League club, so winning consistently you are more likely to convince him.

I’ve taken my 3 sons when they were 7, earlier than that and you’ll spend your time taking them to the toilet, any later and they will catch on that we’re in the third tier

Took my boys at 5 and as above some appreciation of what’s going on but a challenge, I wouldn’t have attempted it before then but they are all different. The train ride there was far more entertainment !

Looking above 7 seems the age if you want to all fully enjoy it.

The only Muff in Town.

For me, my first game was at 7 years old, but I seem to remember asking to go (probably because someone at my school went) and I loved it straight away even though we lost
