Whilst spitting is particularly unpleasant and the posturing isn't exactly warm and cuddly - It does look like they are reacting to "something". This video is only showing one side of what happened.

The article linked in the tweet has more information. Certainly doesn't sound provoked, although yes we're only hearing one side of the story.

There's a good chance I've got the shoes wrong, and of course shoes are symbolic in other faiths too - as Dolly was referring to, in Islam you take your shoes off before entering mosques. I thought the shoe things was a general middle eastern thing, rather than antisemitic specifically - seem to remember Saddam or Gadafi getting the same treatment (or their statues did).
