You know it makes sense.

“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.” Boris Johnson canvassing in Henley, 2005.

Not sure it’s the sort of appointment Ashton would go for when you look at his previous appointments but I’d have Warnock here in a heartbeat.

I don’t think he will either.

It will be interesting though to see their statement of intent.

The Lincoln bloke who they’ve had before would surely be the number 1 target.

Would take the Plymouth manager Lowe here though. My unrealistic yet main hope is for Lampard to be persuaded somehow

No short term fixes. This is a project, not a job til the end of the season.

I hope I am wrong, but I just can’t see Ashton recruiting anyone with a shred of personality. His ego won’t allow it.

I think it will be a malleable, expendable ‘modern first team coach’ type that allows Ashton to celebrate with the fans when we are winning and blame the coach when we lose.

But as I say, I hope I am wrong. Who is picked as the next manager will say an awful lot about the identity of the club moving forwards.

Why Rommy? We had ‘Roy Keane’s Ipswich’. Surely we don’t want Frank done nothing in management and knows zippo about rubbish L1 Lampard?

Nah, we’ve got creative footballers here so he’d be a terrible fit.

As a short term fix he'd be ideal. He'd get our season up and running.

Honest answer.. I watched a 1 hour video yesterday that was released this week of Lampard and Neville talking football, his sacking as Chelsea manager, his ideas of how he wants his teams to play and how it all went at Derby. And I went from thinking he was just another big name to get handed a big job to thinking ‘wow he’d be a bl00dy good manager for us’.

His whole way of thinking was very much something I’d want at our club. Really knows his football.

If only! I have always admired him.

I also wouldn’t say no to Ian Holloway either.

Holloway, Colin. Is it 2002 again? What’s wrong with you all?
