I think the case for Burley was greater previously. If ME wasn’t going to invest in the transfer market, we needed a training ground manager who the fans loved, and who has an appetite for developing academy players. GB is a great bloke and so so well respected, with a genuine love for the club. He would’ve been my pick pre Cook, pre Lambert too.
I think now the remit is that bit different, with owners who have demonstrated they’re happy to spend our way out of this division and I would question if Burley is relevant enough to take that on. Personally I think we need technical thinker with their finger on the pulse by way of today’s market, as they’ll likely be backed to invest in the squad. |  |
