Aye. I arksed much the same and Lord Ham said he'd heard no rumblings. It caught me off guard too, if I'm honest. Had thought they'd give him the season. Now seems our owners are as ambitious as they are ruthless. Can't blame them either given the money put in.

Any idea on the managers we’re looking at? Or the type of manager?

Think it would probably have been a little bit before that but certainly I didn't think a change was imminent.

I'd expect a head coach rather than a traditional manager. Michael Appleton was the man I heard the owners wanted prior to the takeover and the names I subsequently heard that would be potnetial targets were Liam Manning and Ryan Lowe.

Michael Appleton would feel very deflating. Only Ipswich would appoint a manager who is performing worse than the one we have just sacked.

Most of the best Lincoln players were sold prior to this season though, he hasn't exactly got the best squad to work with | | | | Login to get fewer ads

He certainly has squad better than 18th place to work with. They still have a batch of very good players; Anthony Scully, Chris Maguire, Liam Birdcutt, Lewis Montsma, Cohen Brammall, Tom Hopper, TJ Eyoma. [Post edited 7 Dec 2021 13:06]

yeah I get what you're saying, he isn't my first choice for sure. But think he's a decent manager!

I think he an ok manager, think he is very overrated though - that is mainly based off comments from Twitter I've seen though (which I know isn't the beacon of truth). The fact that he would probably still be one of the top 3 contenders shows the standard of current options mind you.

Allegedly Appleton was the first choice of the board at City when Cotterill was sacked, but Lansdown overruled them and went with Lee Johnson. Ashton would obviously know Appleton from Oxford days. As would O’Leary. According to someone I know who played under Appleton he’s a good manager / head-coach, gets on well with the players. Think his reputation is tarnished from earlier jobs.

There’s not enough global bandwidth for all the “told you I was right” posts he’ll make. Needs at least a 3-month cooling-off period.

By which point, he would have gone in early on the new manager.

Everything came as a surprise when Cook was fired, despite many wanting it. I know when J2 said thatNov 28th was going to be D-day for Cook You replied with words to the effect that there were no mutterings about Cook's future. Was there a sudden change to your understanding of Cook's position before he was fired? Or were you as blindsided as everyone else? I know Stewart Watson on the EADT video looked/sounded pretty surprised about it. (No, this isn't a 'This Aged Well' post, but just curious about the nuts and bolts of the timeline between Nov 28th and his last day)

He was also at West Brom, as a player, when both Ashton and O'Leary were involved in that club.
