I don't care if it is, here's mine(in no particular order):
Grace Petrie - Connectivity.
Probably my most played album of all of these, which is no mean feat considering it only came out in October. Great folk-pop tunes with a nice edge.
The Wildhearts - 21st Century Love Songs
It wouldn't be an album of the year list from me without a Ginger Wildheart effort in there somewhere. The Wildhearts continue their post 2019 resurgence with another beast. Not quite as straightforward as 'Renaisance Men' but just as good.
Panopticon - ...and Again Into The Light
An absolutely astonishing piece of black metal art made all the stronger for the eerie Appalacian folk influences stranding all the way through it.
Sam Fender - Seventeen Going Under
I don't like a lot of mainstream guitar music. Probably because I'm old and it doesn't sound like it did in the 90's. Sam, however, sounds quite a lot like Springsteen. So it's all good.
Bruiser Wolf - Dope Game Stupid.
For my thoughts on contemporary hip-hop, see my thoughts on guitar music. This, however is superb. Utterly unique flow with some vaguely old-skool-ish production.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.
I mostly listen to Metal and it's been a particularly strong year I reckon. My absolute top album by a country mile is Diorama by MØL. An absolutely euphoric slice of black metal/shoe gaze/screamo with guitar melodies to die for. Hoping to see them in London in Feb if it's allowed...
Next for me is Green Lung - Black Harvest. British folk-Metal harking back to all the classics. Sounds a bit like Sabbath jamming with Zepplin but all the amps are turned up to 11... Great video to this too:
Then in order:
Amenra - De Doorn Sugar Horse - The Live Long After Glassing - Twin Dream Suffocate for Fck Sake - Fyra Olhava - Frozen Bloom Dvne - Etamen Aenka Der Weg Einer Freiheit - Nokturn Emma Ruth Rundle - Engine of Hell
Lots of others that would have made my list any other year too.

If like gazey and euphoric black, I cannot recommend 'Empire of Love' by Violet Cold any harder.
It would have been on the OP id it weren't for Panopticon's absolutely magnificent offering.
And yeah, it's been a very good metal year.
I've enjoyed Sunna, Gojira, Hand of Kalliach and Firelink in particular.

Here is my top 20, in alphabetic order. Some absolute gold in here, covering all sorts of genres. My absolute favourite, if pushed, is probably Genghis Tron which is a bit post rock, a bit synth wave, a bit metal, a bit krautrock and prob some other stuff too.
Andrew Bryant - A Meaningful Connection Ed Dowie - The Obvious I David Nance - Staunch Honey Dry Cleaning - New Long leg Django Django - Glowing in The Dark Fruit Bats - The Pet Parade Genghis Tron - Dream Weapon Jane Weaver - Flock Lump - Animal Night Beats - Outlaw R&B Major Murphy - Access NRCSSST - NRCSSST Part Chimp - Drool Richard Dawson and Circle - Henki Rose City Band - Earth trip Squid - Bright Green Field Silver Synthetic - Silver Synthetic Sun June - Somewhere Still Corners - The Last Exit WH Lung - Vanities

As a sci-fi and stoner enthusiast, have you heard Sunnata's 'Burning in Heaven, Melting on Earth'?
It's a tad good.

Yeah I quite liked Violet Cold, but wasn't blown away. Maybe I'll give it another spin. A couple of those I've not heard of so I'll look em up. Cheers 🤘

Hand of Kalliach is kind of old-skoolish, kind of deathy but with with some nice ethereal lady gaelic vocals over the top, Sunnata os kind of groggy, stoner-ish. Firelink at progblack with a massively endearingly nerdy Dark Souls obsession. Gojira, I'd imagine you're familiar with.

1. The Coral - Coral Island 2. WH Lung - Vanities 3. Bicep - Isles 4. Dry Cleaning - New Long Leg (which contains the single of this and many a year) 5. Squid - Bright Green Field
The Coral's wonderful double album is best listened to on vinyl as it is divided into parts loosely telling the story of an old seaside town with some narration between tracks by the grandad of the brothers in the band.

A very good year I reckon, in no particular order:
For Those I Love - For Those I Love: was absolutely obsessed with this record in the first few lockdown months of the year. A record made originally for friends and family after the suicide of his friend, Irish spoken word in the style of Mike Skinner with some great production. The first track is the standout (and I think you'll realise very quickly if it is or isn't for you).
Ghetts - Conflict of Interest: One of the best grime records ever made by arguably the best MC currently doing it. Brilliant album and was lucky enough to see him perform at the Roundhouse recently and it was an absolute live masterclass.
Joy Oribson - still slipping vol. 1: A lovely meander through a few different dance genres, really enjoyable in a few different settings.
Dry Cleaning - New Long Leg: Mentioned above, but really stand out. Scratchcard Lanyard my track of the year.
Notable mentions to Olivia Rodrigo, Dave, Floating Points, James Blake and Slowthai.

I don't listen to anywhere near as much new music as I used to, but Typhoons by Royal Blood is my favourite new album of the last 5 years I reckon.
They added an almost dance element to some of the songs when compared to their previous albums, while they maintained their loud sound and it just really worked for me.
I also love how Mike gets so much variety of sound out of a standard bass guitar, plus they're great live as well.

and honourable mentions for: lump big red machine king gizzard & the lizard wizard (butterfly 3000) gruff rhys wolf alice natalie bergman deafheaven black country new road
It does unfortunately include me speaking in between tracks. Sorry.
Cheers Dubbers, will give that a listen over the coming days.
Not sure if you have ever been, but a mate of mine runs Wax on Wax off at the Steamboat, basically take some Vinyl and everyone gets 20-25 minutes to play their selection, there are some real eclectic mixes and it gives you a great introduction to music you wouldn't normally listen too.

Yes I do! See my reply to Jake above for the link.
Merry Christmas to you 3 by the way, hopefully see you at a game some time soon.
Lol, we seem to have some telepathy thing going on here....must be those microchips kicking in! We're on track 3 already, all good so far! This being my favourite so far (Still Corners)

Most years its tough to choose a favourite but this year its easy:
Wildhearts - 21st Century Love Songs
by an absolute mile. Took a few listens for me to realise just how good it is but now I think its right at the pinnacle with the best stuff Ginger has ever written, which is really saying something.
Also enjoyed: The Hold Steady - Open Door Policy Alabama 3 - Step 13 Joe Bonamassa - Time Clocks

Was late to the party with Squid as I'd only looked them up at the beginning of the year, but having dived in found they had some amazing releases before the album was released. It's everything I'd hoped for and more and now I just need to get round to seeing them live.
In no particular order, here's the rest of my favs...
Jane Weaver - Flock Desire Marea - Desire Elori Saxl - The Blue of Distance Portico Quartet - Terrain Inertia Eyes - ST Dry Cleaning - New Long Leg Sam Gendel and Sam Wilkes - Music for Saxofone & Bass Guitar More Songs Leon Vynehall - Rare, Forever Nation of Language - A Way Forward Shame - Drunk Tank Pink Makaya McCraven - Deciphering The Message Durand Jones and the Indications - Private Space Silk Sonic - An Evening with Silk Sonic Parquet Courts - Sympathy for Life Jungle - Loving in Stereo Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders, London Symphony Orchestra - Promises Emma-Jean Thackray - Yellow Hiatus Kaiyote - Mood Valiant Wolf Alice - Blue Weekend Mogwai - As The Love Continues
