Well we’ve won 4 of his 6 games.

If we’d done that under Cook he’d still be here now

Not exactly convincing wins were they? (apart from Gillingham)

Wycombe should have been a draw, we nearly went 2-0 down at home last week,
and there was another one where we got off lightly too. We have had the rub of the green.

Let's not pretend that things have dramatically changed, because they haven't.

The most annoying thing of this transfer window, is we needed to strengthen defence (central) and midfield (central), and left back. I don't see yet any evidence yet that we have sorted those 3 positions out with the right personnel.

I just hope this 'new model' of recruitment works.

Top 2 chasing Wycombe didn’t have a shot on target.

We beat Gillingham 4-0.

We win 2 close ugly games last week that we simply would have lost under cook and Lambert.

Interesting narrative though.

Under PC you may be right, but Lambert did win those ugly games, that's one thing you can give Lambert, he just couldn't beat anyone in the top 10.

The poster is right, alot of people have been sucked in and are seeing things that aren't there yet, we're still a light touch, we still aren't threatening sides as much as we need to and absolutely you create your own luck, but we've had a lot lately. You mention Wycombe, they missed from 2 yards.

As said on the weekend, we've spent plenty of money and changed 2 managers to get back to where we were under Lambert, a side that can win some ugly games, but also spend 80 odd minutes creating nothing but passing it around the halfway line. Absolutely media duties isn't the be all and end all, but hearing the manager already using a pitch as an excuse doesnt cut it for me at this level, when you barely come across a carpet. How it effected our 1 touch passing. time to forget fancy football. It looks great, but it's league 1, just do what is needed to get out of it.

a niche perspective

I think we got lucky in those 2 ugly games, we could easily have lost both.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is great we won them both, but I don't think messing around with tactics each game, or playing out the back with our centre half's is going to turn us into a top 2 side.

The only thing that will turn us into a top two side is to keep improving the quality of player we have. Hopefully we can get to the point where we have a defence that does not leave a square mile of space inside the penalty area within 10 mins of the game starting.

Are the players at the current top 2 really a much higher individual quality? They're good teams rather than exceptional players.

Gillingham are a pub side, let's at least agree on that. They were absolutely dreadful, worse than Doncaster were IMO.

We huffed and puffed against Wycombe but it was days after KM joined, I don't think it was too much of a reflection on him in his defence. 2 sobering away defeats, 1 comfortable win at Wimbledon albeit not a top performance, and got over the line against Accrington where we did, on balance, deserve it. It's a middling start for me, given the quality of the opposition. Had Lambert overseen these 6 games and that performance on Saturday we would be labelled flat track bullies.

We really need 2 wins from the next 2 which would tee up a biggie against MK Dons.

It's still very early days for KM though, he clearly has something about him and he needs weeks, realistically months, and probably a full pre season to get his ideas across. People who think he has a magic wand and will change us overnight really need to give him a fair shot. We'll get it right, it might just take some time. Let's just enjoy the journey.

Rotherham and Wigan are for sure better (more consistent) teams, but you could argue they have better players too.

We are still short of 3 quality players, who are well up for it.

Sunderland got lucky when they beat us at the Stadium of Light.

You can't discount victories because we "might" have drawn or lost.

We didn't.

How long before your first McKenna out post? 12 points out of 18 is quite simply an improvement.

Wycombe were no more productive going forward in that game than we were at Hillsborough on Saturday. Definitely strange to regard the win as reflective of our good fortune and the defeat as evidence of our true lack of quality.

Agreed. It’s a strange old world. So for some, any win bar the Wycombe, Portsmouth and Doncaster ones were lucky. All defeats deserved. All draws deserved defeat. All bad signings are down to Ashton (proven by whether the players was playing for Bristol, had been there or heard of it), all good signings Cook’s/KMs.

Back on planet earth, we have a crudely put together collection of players. However, there’s obvious ability in most of them and I believe can form the basis of a good team for L1, possibly Championship. It all needs refining, tweaking and time to develop. Had I hoped we would storm it like Wigan? Of course, but the level of change and Cook’s way of doing things has put paid to that sadly.

Will McKenna get it right? I hope so and 4 wins in 6 is for me a good start. The failings in the team cannot be hidden and nor can the loss of two key midfielders for these games. Whatever happens between now and May, KM deserves support.

Whether the ‘success now or kick him out’ brigade like it or not, there are no quick fixes. I kind of hope we continue to clear a few players out and wait to the summer to add to the team.

I see Harris has gone to Gillingham. I much prefer who we have.

We need to give McKenna at least until the end of next season, to give him a fair crack of the whip.

He has every chance of success, as he has great backing, has an easier set of fixtures this 2nd half of the season, and he is not going to be judged on a squad of a players that are at the bottom of Div 2.

"22nd Colchester 26 -13 26"

Apologies you don't like a differing opinion, but that is what this board is for.
