Was the home game the one when it was stupidly windy? Grobbelaar in goal for them? Massive jeer and cheer when he went to collect a rogue ballon that the wind then whipped around him and into the net?
No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Yea, home game was horribly windy and cold. Should have still beaten them though.

It was mega windy that day. I seem to remember John Wark heading one against the bar at Churchmans end and us having a good chunk of that game too.

The two fifth round games that stand out for me are firstly, in 1971, a replay at home against Stoke, when we were trying to reach the quarter finals for the first time. It was my fifth game watching the First Team and it ended in sadness as Denis Smith scored the only goal of the game in front of around 30,000 I seem to recall.
The second one from my early days was the tremendous comeback against Aston Villa in 1975, after being 0-2 down we won 3-2 with Bryan Hamilton playing a starring role, to enable us to finally reach the last eight.

Great shout.... I was at all 3 games you've mentioned, the first at the old Stoke stadium and the replay during the following week with 30,000 crammed in for the night game which we lost. 4 years later the game at home to Villa with more than 35,000 inside and probably 6,000+ villa fans in the North Stand back in the days when you just turned up and paid the entrance till it was deemed... full!! Also there at the Anfield replay 30 years ago. The only away game I ever went to with my son but certainly great memories!

Thanks for posting that. The memory is a strange thing. I’d remembered Wark’s bar thumper, but nothing else of the game, but when the clip showed Saunders moving towards goal, the memory of what happened next came back. It was certainly a breezy old day.

One of the sadder things about Town's decline has been the unwillingness of managers to take Cups seriously. It's not been fun being a Town fan over the last 20 years. The only joy came from 2 play-off ventures under Joe & 1 under Mick, plus the League Cup semi final. The unlucky FA Cup 5th round defeat to Watford in 2007 also added some excitement. Maybe we should start to embrace the hated EFL Trophy?

One of the best posts for years . I have been moaning regards our pathetic cup attitude for quite a while but good luck getting any support as most don't seem to care . I also feel it does not help our league form one jot , in fact quite possibly the opposite . I wonder if our new managerial team might take a different stance ! i live in hope .

The most angry I've been about an individual game this season was that Arsenal Kids loss. That was a great chance to go to Wembley and keep the feel-good factor around the club if we'd not been able to get promoted.
Charlton runs it mighty mighty close though.
