Something I dont get re. housing refugees 16:32 - Mar 14 with 4623 viewsblueasfook

Govt have offered £350 a month to anyone offering accomodation to a Ukrainian refugee, yet the local council will get £10k per refugee.

Why?

Still doesn't add up if you consider the average household annual council tax bill which pays for council services is between £1000-£2000. But a refugee costs the council £10k a month?

It's £10k as a one-off payment, not per month.

I'm not sure where they will all fit in - as the UK is absolutely crammed full, according to fartrage and the righties.

I suspect there is plenty of room AS those living in the EU - and after brexit found they were not welcome have easily resettled back in the UK.

Perhaps it is their brown face that brexiteers don't like, as you would think that having seen around 1.3m (?) EU workers leave there might have been a bit of extra space.

But just when the contradictions of that were a becoming a bit awkward we have another baddie to get excited about. No, not Eurasia, or Eastasia ................or even the usual villains of the peace, the Jews but Russian olly garks.

Naughty Russkies who were, up to a few weeks ago, nice generous folk who had given money freely to Mr Johnson and other grateful righties (albeit in return for the odd blind eye being turned, and a few hundred 'golden' visas) are now to be condemned as exceedingly wicked.

Of course, it might go some way to showing how bad those Russkies are by handing back that grubby lucre they greedily snapped up. But that would mean those righties might have to explain why they ignored all the warnings at the time.

But of even greater concern will be ........... what was Putin getting, or expecting to get, in return for those 'gifts.

We have been barraged by the rubbish that the young illegal immigrants are fleeing from war torn countries Leaving their families behind in said ‘war’ torn country!
Here is the REALITY families of men who have stayed to fight for their country now need our help. If hotels etc were not chock full of bogus refugees we would have more room to help these TRUE refugees from a war torn country!

Read it and weep Harry, you will be a 'rightie' before you know it!
https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/brexit/2017/07/lexit-eu-neoliberal-project

"Ceding Brexit to the right was very nearly the most serious strategic mistake by the British left since the ‘70s. Under successive leaders Labour became so incorporated into the ideology of Europeanism as to preclude any clear-eyed critical analysis of the actually existing EU as a regulatory and trade regime pursuing deep economic integration. The same political journey that carried Labour into its technocratic embrace of the EU also resulted in the abandonment of any form of distinctive economics separate from the orthodoxies of market liberalism.

It’s been astounding to witness so many left-wingers, in meltdown over Brexit, resort to parroting liberal economics. Thus we hear that factor mobility isn’t about labour arbitrage, that public services aren’t under pressure, that we must prioritise foreign direct investment and trade. It’s little wonder Labour became so detached from its base. Such claims do not match the lived experience of ordinary people in regions of the country devastated by deindustrialisation and disinvestment.

Nor should concerns about wage stagnation and bargaining power be met with finger-wagging accusations of racism, as if the manner in which capitalism pits workers against each other hasn’t long been understood. Instead, we should be offering real solutions — including a willingness to rethink capital mobility and trade. This places us in direct conflict with the constitutionalised neoliberalism of the EU."

Yup because real men remain in Russian sieges and, if they get to escape, take on dictatorial regimes such as Assad's. Once they are done with that they should probably pop to Afghanistan, starve a while and then take on the Taliban!

TBH, maybe his ire would be better directed at our/US foreign policy rather than the inevitable fallout.

Asylum seekers aren't illegal immigrants.

And in your BBC link over a quarter of the figure quoted is directly associated with Afghans.

Very much so. I missed an appointment a couple of weeks back and they kicked me out after many, many years.

I also can't get an NHS dentist for my grandkids.
