Loads of jobs out there at the moment 15:43 - Jul 25 with 1992 views | gtsb1966 | but how terrible is the pay on a lot of them. I'm always getting driving job requests from indeed but the pay is awful. Got one last night. Delivery Driver night shift at just £10.50 an hour....for night shift!!! Not just the driving jobs though. So many jobs for so little pay.

offering too little compared to not working / doing something under the radar. Its supply and demand innit. If there are no takers, the up the offer.

Average working week is 37.5 so it would be £394. Depends on your cost base but let's be honest, it doesn't go as far as it used to does it? That's hard to live on IMO. After tax you're talking £1,450 a month (based on 52 weeks of the year, so assumes you're paid for holiday). I would be surprised if you can rent a 1 bedroom flat and pay the gas, electric and council tax for much less than a grand just about anywhere in Suffolk. That's before running a car that you might need to get to said job, food shopping, internet, phone etc. Good luck if you have a child to support as well.

I have a two bed terrace in Ipswich, my rent, food and household bills is roughly 1320 a month. So no, that’s nowhere near enough. I don’t understand how anyone can live on that as a single income into the household.

If you lived at home, paid a peppercorn rent to your parents, weren't too worried about saving and didn't have debts or much in the way of bills to pay, childcare to pay etc etc - then £420 is pretty reasonable.

Loads of jobs out there at the moment on 16:23 - Jul 25 with 1450 views | J2BLUE | Wages are crap and with inflation, it's effectively a big pay cut if employers are still offering the same wages. The company I work for are now raising prices for the fourth or fifth time in the year I have been there. No mention of a salary increase.

At 1990s prices that would be a decent amount to live on. Now, after tax et al that's not enough to do anything with other than scrape by.

....as an aside, that isn't the case for all. A client of ours have increased salaries over inflation and are still struggling to recruit. For them, they are in an industry that has been hit by Brexit but also the fact that many now do not want to work within their industry as it doesn't offer hybrid working etc.

It's been mentioned to the manager but not the owner. We are told budgets are being settled etc. For the last 9 months i've been on for a promotion and that never seems to get any nearer either so my hopes aren't high.

There was a McKinsey (lol) study the other day which stated the number 1 reason people leave their job now is a lack of likely promotion/defined career path. Believe it was 40%. Most organisations will keep you where you are until you threaten to leave or someone dies/leaves above you and you're the cheap option to promote.

Gallups latest study shows that pay is the number one driving factor but closely followed but autonomy and career progression.

Yeah, and they're obviously linked. If I was paid 1.5x my current wage for my current level of seniority, I'd be far less bothered about making the next step up the ladder.
